Diana - I like your analogy of the "bug" blending in to the blouse your friend wore. Heresy is definitely like that.

Colleen - Your story cracked me up. I could "hear" your student screaming by your description :-). And you have just become my hero! You killed the thing with kleenex! I need a baseball bat or a 6 inch heel - something quite solid between me and their ugly bodies.

Jeremy and Colleen - Thanks for your input. I have had several light bulb moments throughout this thread. Your posts were like a light being turned on - and the bugs scattered. I pray I will not "read" or look at EGW with the same mentality ever again. And you are right Colleen - evil can be mesmerizing and unclear. I'm praying for Heb. 5:14.

Jeremy, Who authors http://www.truthorfables.net/index.htm ? Initially, as I looked at the site, I felt myself being "mesmerized" and then the "light" came on.

One last comment - I realize I was somewhat nebulous about the author of the "quote" that set this into motion. Now I see it was by God's design that I came across it. No, coincidence there. I have learned too much for it not to have been a God thing. The author of the quote is not someone that has posted in the forum - that I am aware of - and really it is immaterial at this point who it is. I did share with the person and they were thankful for the "heads-up".

Blessings,
Keri

P.S. Can't resist one further post and funny story.

Keri,

When and where were you a SM? I was an SM in Japan (in Osaka) from '99-2000, and went through training at Soquel, CA probably in August '99.

Just thought I'd give you a high-five wherever you are, from one former SM to another!

Bless you in Jesus!
Ramone

P.S. Hmm... I think I'll make a member's thread for this...

Bugs and mice are in the same category for me. I can tolerate mice a little better.

My brother had mice when we were children - at that time I thought they were cute. I've grown out of their "cuteness":-)

Anyways, . . . I was working at church and the secretary came running into my office screaming! Animatedly she described a beady-eyed creature running under her desk and scampering into the corner behind some cabinets. I calmed her down and said I'd take care of it. It was somewhat amusing to me to think that we had a literal "church - mouse".

I went into the office and began pulling things out of the corner, armed with a broom. The twitching little critter came out of the corner and straight at me. I thought it was going to run up my leg. Fearless me screamed - and jumped on the secretaries chair, talking in incoherent syllables. The secretary came in laughing at my false bravado.

So much for being a "hero" and unflappable!

Can't think of any analogy for this one - so I'll just chalk it up to a silly story :-)

Jumping in ~

How sneaky! Didn't realize there was a truthorfables.NET. Is that new?

Truthorfables.COM is one of the first things I found when researching Adventism. Interesting that the SDA's are using the same name. Also I can see that they don't have an "about" link. Typical.

Jumping out.

:-) Leigh Anne

Excellent thread by the way! I've enjoyed reading your posts Keri.

I agree, Leigh Anne... I was looking at that website yesterday and first I could not see if they were pro or against EGW. It was a bit confusing... But after a while I think I could see through.

Interestingly, as you mention, I couldn't find any "about us" section. And I laughed a bit to the "A fair & balanced evaluation of claims and criticisms"... You may think, fair enough, they might actually try to do it.

But then I can not really understand what the author of the website means with "Exposing a subtle attack on the Bible authority". I read a couple of articles and, in general, it seems to be somebody answering to some "attacks" against EGW.

So, now I wonder... What does that person mean with "subtle attack" and "Bible authority"? It looks to me that he/she is basically saying that the "attack" against EGW is an attack against "Bible authority".

Quite clear, no?

Oh, I absolutely agree Martin. In other words, it's a copy-cat site (of truthorfables.com)defending the "Bible autority", Ellen White.

I clicked on "The Passion of the Christ" link and the webmaster writes "A perfect companion to Mel Gibson's movie, "The Passion of the Christ," get your copy of Desire of Ages today." Funny, because my strict SDA father-in-law refused to see "Passion" because Mel Gibson is a Catholic. :-)

When I look at that site, what comes to my mind is Ellen White is the savior there. This webmaster is defending her to the death it seems.

What makes me upset is their Clear Word. Where I live there is an ABC Book Store and of course that book is on display. I have heard non-sdas say they have looked at it and it really helps you to understand the bible (they also carry other bibles) and that is when I jump in with stay away from it as it is like the JW bible and it is full of false teachings from their prophet and you can not tell which is biblical and which is her teachings and they won't tell you it is a sda bible.
I heard a while back that they are suppose to come out with another bible, in fact it was advertised to come out either last Sept or this Sept. My understanding is because of to much contraversy over the cw. Has anyone heard?
I stay out of the sda book store since I have left the church. In fact the last time I was in there I got a feeling of opression and could not get out of there fast enough.

Ramone,
I'll post in the member section about my time as an SM. I'm gone for a few days - so it will be a little while and then I'll post.

Leigh Anne - YES, SNEAKY! I was on the site wondering why Jeremy would have given the link. I, too, tried to find the WHO of the website and there was nothing. So it was hard to determine - were they for or against EGW - defending scripture or what! Then as I read more and was somewhat mesmerized - I realized what was happening inside - and thanks to this thread - I knew it was the sign of confusion - not the reality of truth. The light came on.

Martin, glad someone else had a similar reaction.

May Jesus continue to empower us to discern truth from error, evil from good, and His presence from a deceptive spirit.

Keri,

The author of truthorfables.net is Bob Pickle (he also has www.ellengwhite.info--which is basically the same site--and www.pickle-publishing.com). Notice that the White Estate/SDA Church doesn't care that he is using even their trademarked name "Ellen G. White"--and yet they forced ellenwhite.org to shut down! It all depends on whether or not you worship ellen.

Soon after realizing that EGW was a false prophet, I communicated with Mr. Pickle for awhile by email. He is a rabid EGW-apologist. He also wrote a book responding to the "Spirit Behind the Church" video (have you seen that video yet?), claiming that there are hundreds of "errors" in the video (of course most of his claims are totally false).

And yes, his sites are the WORST! They were "scary" for me to go to for a long time after leaving Adventism--they are very spooky and mesmerizing, as you said. In fact, I still don't like reading his deceptive junk. His website is definitely controlled by evil. I was gonna warn you about it when I linked to it--I probably should have! Sorry! The only reason I linked to it was because that page was the source of the Bob Pickle quote that I posted.

And yes, Leigh Anne, the SDAs have no shame in "stealing" someone's domain name for their nefarious purposes. They also started up sdaoutreach.com to counter Mark Martin's sdaoutreach.org (which the SDA Church forced him to stop using--so at least they can't confuse people with the similar ".com" anymore!).

And what Mr. Pickle means by a "subtle attack" on "Bible authority" is the common SDA argument that if you reject EGW you also have to reject the Bible, because it's full of contradictions and plagiarism and mistakes just like EGW is! (Which, of course, is just another false SDA claim!)

Jeremy

Actually, I see that ellengwhite.info is now ellenwhite.info (I don't know whether they at least made Mr. Pickle move to that domain, or whether it was his own idea...).

Jeremy,
I'm heading out for the weekend, but wanted to post before I left.

Yes, the truthorfables website was totally mesmerizing and then I realized what was happening and even though I couldn't find any contact info - to indicate who was behind the site - I finally realized the subtleties that you and Colleen were talking about. My stomach took a lurch after my awareness and I jumped off.

Actually I'm glad it happened, because it confirmed that the Holy Spirit is slowly teaching me to discern - even when there is no indication behind what I'm looking at - such as this website.

Thanks for the extra info. and yes, I have seen the video of the "Spirit Behind the Church". Actually, I think I've watched all the video's on ex-Adventist site. They were helpful. I've even watched the interview with Walter Martin taken many years ago as he asked questions of an SDA administrator.

I'm realizing that I need LOTS of time in the WORD as I get grounded deep in the REALITY of the genuine Jesus. I need to know the authentic so I can discern, by the Holy Spirit's work in my life, what is unreal and deceptive.

Thanks for your help and prayers.

If I might solicit some more prayers in regards to this leader of this "Sunday" church - that actually started this whole thread . . . I'm really feeling quite queasy about talking with him again. And am asking God if I really need to be in church this Sunday or if I can take a break. He just seems to do a number on my mind and emotions. I will be giving him materials - and have left a message at his home - but no response and no email. It could be that he is out of town.

Anyways, have a good weekend,
Keri

Keri, YES! Don't be intimidated away from church by a person who is ill-informed. You know what you know, and you can be confident even if he is opinionated or rigid. When you know who you are in Jesus, you can hold your head up even when people misunderstand.

Praying for you, Keri...

Jesus is FULLY God, but He did permanently take on a human body - now glorified.

(I think most Adventists believe that Jesus is fully God - I sure did when I was an Adventist - and I never heard of any other Adventist believing that He wasn't. However if you read that EGW quote that I quoted in my post above, it sure looks like EGW DIDN'T believe that Jesus is God! It sounds as if the early SDA church didn't believe that He's God. Am I right? Anyway, I would certainly have had serious cognitive dissonance, had I read this quote back when I was an SDA.)

Yeah, it really sounded like she believed that Jesus' divinity was an attribute that He had the power to set aside or lessen if He wished. (Sorta like "divinity lite"). Then, when He finished saving the world, He took on His full divinity again. After this informative thread (thanks, everyone!), I see now that she really had a misunderstanding of the nature of God and the Trinity.
