"Investigation has revealed the fact that THOUSANDS of those who are inmates of penal and corrective institutions began their career in immorality and crime on the dance floor."

SDA author Taylor G. Bunch, discussing the evils of dancing, in the book "The Ten Commandments", pg. 133. (Written in 1944.)

Thought this might give you a smile this evening. :-)

Hmmm...probably thousands of inmates began their careers eating bread as well.

What kind of cause/effect is THAT?!

Most potheads started out with mothers milk, then hit the hard stuff.

Wow! I guess I will need to let my friend know this as her husband owns a lance studio and is a lance instructor and travels the country with his dance troop. They do ballroom competition. Maybe that doesn't apply to them because they go to church on Sundays. Maybe that only applies to Saturday observing criminals. Does he explain in more detail?

Guess it has not caught up with me as I learned to dance in an SDA home.
I am a senior citizen and the only time I have been in prison is when I went with CR into the prison/jail. That has been within the past 3 years.

I had a short discussion with one of my adventist patients (I'm a dentist, by the way) who said that according to EGW, dancing is sinful. When I remarked that in the Bible king David danced while praising God. I also told her that the Bible should interpret EGW and not the other way around.

I didn't give much thought to our conversation, but much to my surprise, on her followup appointment, she brought me a whole set of Doug Batchelor DVD's to watch. Maybe she thought I needed to be corrected on my "blasphemous" remarks against EGW.

I was also given as a followup gift, two Great Controversies as a reading material for our reception area.

Anyway, just sharing some experiences with my adventist friends. I'm sure a lot more is to come.

Hi Docjon,

Welcome to FAF, if I haven't done so already!

There is almost nothing worse in Adventism than saying, or even seeming to say, anything against EGW, or the Sabbath. These two things are untouchable for most SDA's.

DocJon, welcome. Asurprise, so I see I am not the only one who heard the story about nthe fellow drunk on ice cream. King David not only danced for the Lord he danced before the Lord naked.

In reading the account in 2 Samuel 6, it says David was wearing a linen ephod, and later in verse 20 Michal rebukes him for uncovering himself. I researched a little about that and found that the linen ephod was what the priests wore outside their robe, and some translations say David wore a linen ephod and others say he wore only a linen ephod. So it's unclear if Michal was upset because he was immodest (as only an ephod would be) or because he had set aside his royal robes for priestly attire. Either way, he wasn't naked.

Hi Docjon! Welcome. My Dad's a retired oral surgeon...

Oh, wow, two GControversies for your waiting room? P-e-r-f-e-c-t! How better to relax your patients than when they read they have to "stand in the sight of a Holy God" (in the end times) without a Mediator!! Or pass an IJ!

Thank-you, Ravan for explaining. You know, Raven, you are very dear to my heart. Around 7 years ago I ended up stranded with nothing 3000 miles from home. I came to this forum with my sad story and both you and Flying Lady helped me in my desperation. Thank-you forever.
