For those of you who didn't look it up; first, the answer explains how there's no investigative judgement because Jesus died "once for all" and that when we receive His atoning death, we're forgiven for ALL trespasses, so there's no further need of deliberation on the matter. Second, it explains that those are days, not years, and that that time period refers precisely to the historical period when Antiochus persecuted the Jews from September 6, 171 B.C. to December 25, 165 B.C. It goes into more detail than that, so it's definately worth reading! It makes me feel so, well, cheated out of so many years of my life! I, like so many others, was ignorant and swallowed what I was taught; hook, line and sinker!  | ||

This is what I found taught so clearly in the book of Daniel when the women of our church studied it weekly this past year. What "a surprise"--EGW didn't know her Bible, did she? Thanks for this post! | ||

I sent this information to an SDA relative. She emailed back, saying, quote: "Dear Dianne, I don’t know what the guy is talking about when he mentions the "investigative atonement." The Day of Atonement is what is being talked about here in Daniel 8:14. On the day of atonement the sanctuary is cleaned. During the time of the vision the earthy sanctuary was in ruins. When people can to the temple to bring a lamb to sacrifice for their sins this lamb represented Jesus. After the sacrifice the person went home and didn’t have to worry anymore about their sin for it was placed on Jesus. However once a year on the day of atonement the sanctuary was cleaned. Leviticus 16:16 "So he shall make atonement for the Holy [Place,] because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, for all their sins; and so he shall do for the tabernacle of meeting which remains among them in the midst of their uncleanness. This didn’t mean their sins were not forgiven before. The 2300 days meant years not days because: 1. The sanctuary could not have been cleaned during Daniel’s time because the temple was in ruins. 2.. The vision was full of symbols. Beasts meant kingdoms, etc… And in other areas of the Bible days represented years in prophecies. Read Numbers 14:34 and Ezekiel 4:6. 3.. The 2300 days covers the history of Medo-Presian, Grecian and Roman empires. This has to be years not days. 4.. The angel told Daniel that these prophecies concerned the end of time. Check Daniel 8:19, 26, Dan. 10:13, 14. 5.. Also Daniel’s prophecies fit perfectly and predict when the Messiah would come. I have read that the Jews put a curse on Jews studying Daniel’s prophecies because they would prove that Jesus really was the Messiah." endquote. I wrote back to her saying; quote: "Dear ____, Here's a verse that destroys that theory; because where is God? Could there be a holier place than where GOD is?!? NO PLACE could be holier than God! Nowhere does the Bible say that Jesus is investigating us. It says He's interceding for us! Romans 8:34 says: "Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one Who died—more than that, Who was raised—Who is at the right hand of God, Who indeed is interceding for us." Please get out your Bible and read all of chapter 8. Daniel 8:3 tells about the Medo-Persian Empire which conquered Babylon. (As you know, Daniel had this vision while Babylon ruled - "the third year of King Belshazzar".) Then the male goat with the horn represented Greece in verse 5. The horn was broken and four horns came up - Daniel 8:8 - which were the four generals that took over when Alexander the Great died. Out of one of those horns - verse 9 - came a little horn that made the Jewish people stop their sacrificing - Daniel 8:11-12. History shows that Antiochus Epiphanes ran roughshod over Israel and plundered the Jewish temple and set up a statue of Zeus in the Most Holy Place. He confiscated all copies of the Scriptures he could find. He forbade circumcision, and offered swine as sacrifices in the temple. The Jews, led by someone named Mattathias Maccabaeus revolted and Jerusalem was cleaned of paganism and the temple was rededicated. Now the annual 8 day "Feast of Dedication" (now called Hanukkah) is observed. It was observed in Jesus time - John 10:22. Then in verse 13, the question is asked: "For how long is the vision concerning the regular burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled underfoot?” You said that verses 19 and 26 say that this refers to the end times. What do the verses right after verse 19 say concerning what would happen in the "latter times?" Let me put them down here: 19 He said, “Behold, I will make known to you what shall be at the latter end of the indignation, for it refers to the appointed time of the end. 20 As for the ram that you saw with the two horns, these are the kings of Media and Persia. 21 And the goat is the king of Greece. And the great horn between his eyes is the first king." Daniel 8:19-21 Why are you taking this one verse clear out of the context of the passage? The Bible is real clear that this verse happened back in the time of Greece, which was future for Daniel when he received the vision. Love, Dianne" |
