I wanted to find out if anyone here has any extra copies of the new edition of Sabbath in Christ; the new edition of The Cultic Doctrine of Seventh-day Adventism; The Christian "in Christ"; and A Theologian's Journey from Seventh-day Adventism. If you do let me know. I would be willing to pay for the shipping and handling if you have them. I do not have any of these books and would very much like to read them because I know that it will help me through the process of releasing the adventist mind-set and spirit(which I know is still present within me, it's just being very difficult in going) and I have been praying, praying, and more praying for it's grip to let me go. I know that it is still there because when I am studying the bible and I find myself reiterating out loud, I can still hear within me the indoctrination of the sda teachings. I had been in the church for 24 years and out for 6.How long does it take for it to release its hold completely? I can actually feel my spirit struggling to be released from the agony that it is putting me through. No matter how much bible reading and prayer I do, I still feel the battle within me. And I so want it out of me so I can worship the Lord with a pure heart and spirit and not one that has been tainted with sda doctrines. Please keep me in your prayers. How long did it take you guys to be completely free and to feel totally free from the sda bondage?

It seems to me that about two years is a reasonable average amount of time from the point where one decides that Adventism is false to the point where has been mostly transformed into a new worldview in heart and mind. But I think it really never ends. I've been on this journey 13 years and continue to discover fresh nuances where Adventism continues to influence my outlook, attitude, and worldview.

I've never heard anyone say "well that was easy!" because it never is. The process stretches one's psyche and spirit (and usually many relationships) to the max.

Thanks, Freeatlast that really gives me a lot of hope to look forward to. And you are right, it isn't easy, it's tough and hard. And yes, my spirit is being stretched, too. All I can do is keep on holding onto Jesus Christ and his word.

Jesus will lead and guide you through the process. He brought you to this and will continue to bring you through. He will use everything you have been through in Adventism for your Spiritual blessing. He will redeem it all in time - Trust Him!

Alison I can totally relate to your struggle, I have only been away from the sda church for 6 months and it has only been the last 3 months that I had come to the conclusion that it was not where I needed to be. It is a daily struggle for me, just when I feel confident that I am on the right track, something pulls me back. Yesterday I received a package from a friend from the sda church, it was an Ellen White devotional. I just haven't gotten to the place where I can confidently tell them I am not coming back, so far their contact with me is just to say they miss me and hope to see me soon. While I believe that I need nothing but faith in Jesus sacrifice for salvation, I continue to battle all the old thinking. All we can do is pray and hang on to Jesus and His Word.

Sheilaaallen~

You are experiencing the same doubts and struggles with adventism that
all of us here on the Forum have had to surrender(and continue to surrender)
to GOD~ do not be alarmed or discouraged!

Cling to GOD's Promises! Do not be afraid!

If it were me~ I would dispose of the book that was recently given to you.

Anne Graham Lotz, (daughter of Billy Graham) has a daily devotional 'online'.
I receive it 'free' in my e-mail every morning~
Just Google her name and you can go to her site and begin receiving it right away!

I think you will be great blessed!

Sheila, your struggle is normal; we ALL experience(d) similar confusion, emotional pulls, and fear of transparency.

I agree with MJ--get rid of that book! Are you attending church anywhere? You need to study the Bible and be in fellowship with people who have no SDA background.

AND--you need to debrief with us who have been there and understand your worldview and confusion. Ask question...we're here for you. When you get those doubts, go back to the clear promises of Jesus; He never fails, and it is His eternal Word that has given you the power of the gospel and brought you to trust Jesus. His word can counter the doubt and fear.

With prayer for you,
Colleen

Thanks MJ and Colleen for your support and encouragement. I am going to a good non-denominational bible believing church which is one of the main reasons I was able to pull out of the sda church. But I so appreciate this forum and making connections with people who have been there, I think it is hard for other people to get where you are coming from, as supportive and encouraging as they can be. It is helpful to me to be able to share my struggles with getting past all the adventist teaching with people who have experienced some of the same things.

Nobody can understand everything you are experiencing like other former Adventists here. We have all been through our own very unique - but in so many ways very similar - experience.

It's good that you have are connected to a solid church. But whenever they don't quite "get it" come here where we definitely "get it".
