Happy Resurrection Sonday! :-):-):-)

When Jesus died on the cross, He took the bullet of God's wrath completely, but false religions claim that He didn't take it ALL. In effect they claim that shrapnel sprayed everyone and to be saved, they have to dig the shrapnel out.
Have you heard of those people in some third world countries who, last week, had themselves nailed to crosses? Those people think that if they endure some suffering that they'll be "digging part of the shrapnel out."

Seventh-day Adventists think that if they "continually make progress" in "digging the shrapnel out," that they'll be saved when Jesus comes back. (And even though the Bible says that believers "have been saved," they don't believe they're saved yet.)
Roman Catholics think that before going to Heaven, a person has to go to purgatory in order to cleanse out the shrapnel.
Brigham Young of the LDS church taught that some sins were too great for Jesus' death to atone for, that people who committed such sins had to pay with their own blood - his doctrine of "blood atonement."

The gospel is really good news - infinitely better than the false religions make it out to be!

I also sent this to several relatives and one of my SDA sisters emailed back and said: "You are incorrect about SDA's. We are only saved through faith in Jesus and that true faith always results in works. These works don't save us but show that our faith is real."

I wrote back and said: "About what the SDA church believes about salvation; here's a quote from "The Great Controversy," in the chapter called: "In the Holy Of Holies."
"Those who are living upon the earth when the intercession of Christ shall cease in the sanctuary above are to stand in the sight of a holy God without a mediator. Their robes must be spotless, their characters must be purified from sin by the blood of sprinkling. Through the grace of God and their own diligent effort they must be conquerors in the battle with evil."

The Bible says that believers "HAVE BEEN SAVED," and "FORGIVEN" but the SDA church doesn't believe their people have been saved or forgiven - not until they strive through to the end. In "The Great Controversy," in the chapter called, "The Time of Trouble," it says, concerning God's people:
" If they could have the assurance of pardon they would not shrink from torture or death; but should they prove unworthy, and lose their lives because of their own defects of character, then God's holy name would be reproached."

(Remember, the "assurance of pardon" is the same as the "assurance of salvation.")
Why do you keep twisting in order to defend SDAism like that game where people have to contort themselves all over the place to put a hand or a foot on a colored dot? Why not just prayerfully take the Bible as it reads?

I did the same as you're doing when I was an Adventist. I knew that the Bible says that salvation is by grace and not of works so I thought I believed that when I didn't quite. I couldn't when I believed the Adventist church is true. So I went on, happy as a clam, thinking I would go to Heaven if I just kept making progress or trying to, and if I asked forgiveness at the end; but all along I was lost. I'm concerned you're in the same "boat."

Very true, Asurprise. It's so hard to talk to people with an SDA mindset about law-keeping reflecting faith. Sigh. But your description of your own experience is exactly right. That's how it was for me, too.

Colleen; it's like they don't understand even the most basic things in the English language when it comes to doctrine. Over and over my SDA sister points out Matthew 5:17-18, saying that "not one jot or tittle will pass from the law until all is fulfilled."

I point out to her that it says "NOT ONE JOT OR TITTLE will pass from the law until all is fulfilled! That means you still have to offer sacrifices if ALL is not fulfilled because that's part of the law too! Jesus was talking to Israel when He said that, and to them the law was the whole 613 commands given to them by God, not just the 10." I also point out the differences in the Covenants - Old and New and point out that the Sabbath was the sign of the Old (Exodus 31:13) and that Jesus fulfilled it in the New (Colossians 2:16-17). I point out that the Old Covenant was given only to Israel (Deuteronomy 5:2-3) and just what that Covenant was (Deuteronomy 4:13). I point out that the New Covenant is the New Testament and it only repeats 9 of the 10 commandment.

It leaves me flummoxed that she doesn't understand. I've heard a saying, something like: None are so blind as he who will not see.

(I've also pointed out that Hebrews 8:13 says that the Old Covenant is obsolete.)

Asurprise~

I think that the people you described in your post, are really not stubborn and do not want to see~
They just can't~ because the "veil" covering their eyes
is just too thick~

I came to the point when I could not reach certain people with Biblical Truth;
I gave them over to the Holy Spirit to reveal Truth to them~

I pray continually for them, and stand ready, if the "Spirit" wants me to
do more than pray .

This just reminds me that the sdas have eyes and faces that are covered as explained in 2 Corinthinians.

Mj; I hope you're right because then they can be reached. If they will not see, they've hardened their heart and God won't force them against their will...
The veil IS very thick though!

I occasionally don't want to bother with the SDA 's dribble so sometimes when they start in with me i turn to the 10 Commandments and read to them the start where God says, "today i brought you out of the land of Egypt ..." and tell them to focus on the words this day And you in Egypt and let them know God excluded me from that passage because I've never been to Egypt. Then we are each fed up with each other and get on to other topics

It reminds me of what Jesus said to the Pharisees after he healed the blind man. John 9:40-41:

quote:

Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.

(John 9:40-41 ESV)
