Hey guys, Was wondering what you guys think of the book Jesus Calling. It is a huge seller and there are books for children too. Perhaps you all have already discussed this. I haven't been on here for a while. I wanted to see if we could have a discussion on this just to get a feel for where former SDA's (at least at this venu) land on this hot topic. Have you read the articles by former New Agers who are expressing their concern? As a "Former" I know how frustrating it is to stand up and wave a red flag at those who are enticed by Adventism's deceptions and who brush me off. I believe that "Former" anything deserves a hearing. One thing interesting to me is the connection to the Oxford. Group and God calling -as anyone in the recovery movement knows the Oxford group was the forerunner of AA -- there is an occult spiritual connection to the way that group(AA) received the 12 steps through automatic writing and spirit guides - (I was in AA for over 25 years and am a former of that group as well-) as I researched Jesus calling over a year ago I came to an understanding of why I reacted to it the way I did - I was distressed in my own spirit by the first person writing as Jesus speaking...immediate open door for deception in a most hypnotic way - I am comforted by the scriptural words of Jesus and turn to the "red letters" when I am disquieted by that kind of "red flag" - I appreciate the Lighthouse Trails as a discernment ministry - discernment ministries like that have helped enlarge my understanding of false teachings as they were one of my resources as I sought to understand why when others were praising this book I was so disturbed by it... Some of the same alarms going off for me with SDA AA and Jesus Calling... I am finally understanding why I did not feel at home until I came home to Jesus - I do believe I have always known my Shepherd's voice and stayed restless until I finally found my rest in Him.... | ||

That is so interesting, Rocky. My husband did AA too and he says the same thing; it isn't Christian. I also know that I sensed Jesus calling me to Himself from the time I was a child. After being born again and having fellowship with Christians I often described the feeling I had as finally being home. I no longer felt like a sojourner, I had a place to land, even though it wasn't a physical place. Hard to explain, but I suspect you already know what I mean. I completely understand the restlessness, and I knew God was calling me to something, I just didn't know that it was salvation. What a Father we have! | ||

I believe it is important to be sensitive to what we think the HOLY SPIRIT is communicating to us, especially when it comes to the writings of people who claim CHRIST as their LORD and SAVIOR~ I believe this is called,"wisdom and discernment"~ I had, and continue to have, an 'uneasiness' in my spirit regarding the book, 'The Shack', authored by Wm. Paul Young. I realize that many Christians like this book and give it to others, in the hope they will find what they are looking for in their lives through this book. Unfortunately, for many this is not the case; After all the book is 'fiction', but many actually believe his 'experiences' are true! Thus being mislead about the True 'Trinity' of Scripture. ~mj~ | ||

Free, I really appreciated the Sola Sisters reflections on this book when I read it several months ago. The forward of "Jesus Calling" explains how Sarah Young began listening for Jesus to speak to her and commenced writing down what she heard. It was uncannily similar to EGW. The first person words of Jesus—which aren't His words but are Sarah Young's—are alarming. Rocky, very interesting background re: AA. Colleen | ||

I received an email notification from lighthouse today regarding the introduction to Jesus Calling- apparently the publisher has altered it to delete Sarah Young's endorsement of God Calling and wording has been changed to less obvious reference to her methodology- glad Sola sisters and lighthouse are references for the original wording and the truth cannot be hidden... http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/blog/?p=14529 | ||

Several months ago, a dear sister in the Lord gave me the book, "Jesus Calling". I read the first few devotionals and of course, they sounded wonderful. But I immediately became uncomfortable with someone else speaking for Jesus in the first person. We should NEVER add words to what Jesus authentically said in Scripture. I closed the book and haven't opened it since, nor do I intend to. I know a lot of people who are loving this book, though. |
