I was told that the Rabbis interpret the verse in the law that prohibits to boil the kid in its mother's milk as meaning that they cannot mix milk and meat together. As in a cheeseburger. Has any one heard that or has any explanation? That's interesting if SDA cannot eat cheesburger, spaghetti with meat, etc. | ||

Yes, that is what Judaism teaches. It's one part of a really huge mountain of legislation that has been added to the Torah - to ensure you don't break the actual command. Going above and beyond what God commanded in a zealous desire to protect the original sacred command. Observant Jews have separate utensils in their kitchens and sometimes even separate kitchens to keep their meat and dairy apart. There is a time period you have to wait after eating one in order to be able to eat the other, so they will not combine in your digestive tract. It's not a biblical explanation of the command, imo. Ha! Hec, I've always pondered the fact that Adventists observe only the parts of the food laws that suit them. How do they decide which parts are for them? It doesn't say not to boil the calf in milk - just not to boil it in it's mother's milk. Ellen White said some really humorous things sometimes; such as how a person should avoid tea and coffee which are narcotics according to Ellen White! (see "Counsels on Diet & Foods" - page 402 in the paperback version). And on page 48 of the same book, she says that "butter and meat stimulate." On that page and also pg. 397 and 407, she says that meat strengthens the animal passions. Jesus ate meat and yet He was pure and holy and still had the strength to die for our sins! | ||

One thing about my SDA mother...she's a meat eater through and through. I can remember at church board meeting when one saint was going on about Sister White and her thoughts on eating meat. Mom said...you know...Jesus ate meat and that wasn't wheat cakes he cooked for his disciples! I have to laugh whenever I think about that. | ||

I remember way back when of hearing about how the sda gave meat to one football team and another team did not get meat served to them at a dinner and then they put the two teams on the football field and it showed how those who ate meat were so much more aggressive (animalistic). I never bought into that as I was raised on meat and potatoes and I did not go out and beat the brains out of anyone, and still haven't. Gail | ||
