"If the Reformation churches had followed to a conclusion the work of restoring the gospel to its apostolic purity and had accepted the responsibility of heralding the three angels' messages when these messages were due, and had brought their teachings and practices into complete harmony with the scriptures, the forming of a new church, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, would not have been necessary. But when these churches failed to follow on in the work of reform, especially when, according to the prophecies, specific reforms were due, it became necessary for God to work through an organization that was willing to go all the way. It is in these considerations that the Seventh-day Adventist Church finds the reasons for its existence. The Seventh-day Adventist Church accepts its role humbly."

I seem to have numerous memories of SDAs saying that it is THE Original church and that the messages of the SDA church have only been kept by a few over the years. The idea that the SDA church came into existence because the reformation "didn't go far enough" is in contradiction to those who would say that they are "the Church/the original church" that Christ left on earth. My my--no wonder SDA rhetoric can be hard to pinpointfor every brand of SDA there is a quote to support their line of thinking

~Thank-you for sharing, Nowisee~
As I recall 'egw' every chance she got would "feign" humility as it pertained to herself~ as in not desiring to be called a 'prophet' by the people, but only God's 'messenger'~somehow this would make her less culpable for the heresies she taught~? Then at other times she would bring out her Big Club of threatening eternal damnation to those who went against her 'testimonies'!Doesn't seem to be any 'humility' in that statement!
Oh what a headache! Praise GOD I have been released by His Grace from this mess~!I hope anyone reading this has been been released also~

Nowisee -- look in the magazine pages for the publishers column. Most magazines have that to tell the particulars of the organization and publication. I'm sure that Proclamation! has that as well... It should give a date of publication if it isn't on the front page.

OK, yeah I should've included the author! Seekr, it's Don F. Neufeld. It is OLD, I finally found where they put the publishing info--it was 1971. A friend gave us a box of old SDA stuff--even has some creepy old "Amazing Facts" booklets in it. As I studied the artwork on the covers, I thought, "No wonder I grew up so frightened! One cover has a black tornado approaching a family home with a father running away with his little girl in his arms, one has a guy mugging an elderly lady, one has a guy driving his car with a huge radar behind him. He is frightened and sweating bullets. Last but not least is the red-orange cover with a huge satan with goatee, horns and pointed ears. He is gleefully looking down at 7 humans on fire in his out-stetched hands. (Caption on this is: "Is the devil in charge of hell?" and "Can he be trusted to be impartial?" (Uh, duh, he's the devil--why ask the last stupid question?)

If anyone wants these AF for research, let me know...

If you can find a 'volume number' and a 'issue number' it might be found as a PDF in the SDA archives here....

Here is the issue with Neufeld's article--it is entitled "A Church With a Divine Commission" and begins on page 3: http://www.adventistarchives.org/docs/RH/RH19710429-V148-17__B.pdf#view=fit

So why did it have to take so long for the "one true church" to appear? Some individuals that sacrificed so much for God's cause didn't do good enough?

Martin Luther, Jan Hus, etc. did so much for God. Adventists are so arrogant.
