OK, so I really have nowhere else to put this, but oh well.

My first wedding anniversary is coming up May 4th and I could use any and all suggestions as to what to get/do for my wife.

Thanks,
Joel

LOL!!!

Happy Anniversary Joel!! How exciting, you made it a whole year!

Does she wear jewelry? Jewelry is always good!! Diamonds and chocolate are GOOD!!

Take her out to dinner somewhere nice, get a sitter and if you can stay out at a hotel or something, she needs a break from the baby--you too!

Congratulations!

Umm, does she like fishing, camping, hunting?? If so, then take her to the mountains! :)

That's what I'd want. But then I've never been known to be your standard kinda woman.

Nothing like the fresh scent of pine trees, hearing the white water rivers or watching the sunset on a glassy smooth lake. Hearing the nightowl or coyote mingled their song along with the crickets and other critters of nature. And watching the stars in astonishment as they are so very bright compared to living in a city. Also, many more sightings of shooting stars. Absolutely a way to live er I mean as a gift for her.

Course, I would say to bring the chocolates with you into the mountains. Yes, and a good supply of them for good measure. :)

Happy hunting, fishing, star gazing, listening to mother nature and eating delicious cholcolate!

Joel - As a mom, I have to agree with the idea of getting away. About the best thing you could give me when my daughter was little was a night away! No baby crying, being able to SLEEP, no phones ringing, no chores waiting. I still love my getaway nights or weekends! Happy anniversary a little early!!! Love and prayers to all, Carol #2

Hush Denise, You're making me want to dig out the old sleeping bag and tent. Seriously though, I do want to go out on our boat down in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Mike is part-owner of a small boat that has a full bed in the lower deck and small sink and port-a-john, nothing fancy but it sure is a temptation to head south, amen. Gee, maybe if I knew the two of you, you could come down and go with us sometime Joel.

Joel, congragulations! I really feel happy about this; I remember when you first began to post when you were engaged to her. How wonderful to witness the growth and change of the past year!

I second the motions for jewelry, chocolates, and A NIGHT AWAY! I'll also add flowers to the list. For some reason, I love getting flowers!

If she is really feeling free from Adventism, I suspect she'll LOVE getting jewelry. Some of my favorite jewelry from Richard has been pearls in various forms, including earrings. Does she have her ears pierced? If not, is she interested? Taking her to get them pierced and buying her some great earrings might be a real treat.

Happy Anniversary, Joel! Praise God!

Sara had lots of holes in her ears before she became Adventist, but then her stepmom made her take them out "because they're sinful"... whatever. I actually got her some earrings for Valentine's Day, and she's loved the freedom of wearing them without thinking its sin. Anyways, I'm keeping a mental note of all your suggestions. Thanks so much!

Guess earrings aren't what they used to be in SDA land, I just heard from my cousin (who wears jewelry and her kids too) that my mom is wearing earrings, but "only if they are studs" I said, give her a year, she'll be wearing hoops! LOL

Hi everyone! I've asked for prayer for my friend Julie in the past. Just wanted to let you know she passed away this weekend. She had battled cancer for five years, and was a miracle since when she was originally opened up five years ago, it was so advanced that the doctors gave her just weeks to live.

She was a good friend in SDA academy, and is the one I had such concern over because she seemed to be so afraid to die, so afraid she might not "be ready." She had just turned 42 this past winter. She leaves behind her husband, her dad, and two sons. Please keep this family in your prayers.

Thanks. With love and prayers, Carol #2

Carol, praying for her family. How old are her sons? How terrible. Hope that she is pleasantly surprised in Jesus' arms now.

I know, I keep thinking that too, how surprised she must be! Her sons are older, one is in early 20's, and married (she had him just out of high school,) and the other is in like his second year of college. Good kids, have really been there for their mom. Thanks for your prayers! Love, Carol #2

I'm praying for Julie's family, too, Carol. Did she live near you, and were you close?

No, we don't live near each other. We were very good friends in academy though. She was in the Chicago area and I'm in Atlanta. I've seen her probably four or five times in the last five years, going to our alumni weekend at academy, she and her family stopping by when in the area, have even had a "girls weekend" where four of us met in Paducah KY because it was about halfway for all of us. Glad we had that weekend in KY - it was the year we all turned 40, and Julie had just finished chemo, I think it was a very special weekend for her. Oh memories! You know, I never told her I'd left the SDA church. I wasn't holding back with anyone anymore except her (and as a result the academy friends in the Chicago area.) I'm sure it's possible she heard through the grapevine, but I knew with her traditional SDA mindset it would be so upsetting for her, and we really have thought for quite some time now that she was near the end. So I guess it's time to fess up to the rest of my academy circle of friends.

OK, I'm rambling....I have just spent about nine hours straight entering test scores for ESOL students in the county's database, and I can hardly see straight!

Thanks everyone for your prayers and concern!

Carol 2, what type of work do you do? I see you are involved in education in some way. :)

Right now I'm working for the public school system, at our International Welcome Center, where I test middle school & high school students new to the country to determine their English skills, and their placement in the ESOL programs in the schools, or in some cases placement in an "Intensive English Language" program for a year prior to attending their regular school. I also keep records on all these students for the county, their test scores mainly. I love the interaction I have with the families and students, but this time of year is extremely stressful. Every ESOL student in all of Cobb County (Georgia) has been tested, some given as many as three different tests, and we're busy trying to enter all the scores for state requirements and they were due last Friday! However, due to the "No Child Left Behind Act" we have had to do more than usual, which put the teachers behind in their testing, and as a result, we are terribly behind in entering all the information we have to enter to meet the state requirements and receive funding for this program. So.....pray for me please!!!! (I'm sorry Richard, I know you probably weren't expecting such a detailed response!)

Love and prayers to you all, and please remember my friend Julie's family especially this evening as they are having the viewing and service tonight.

Ah! How interesting.

My sister has been an ESOL teacher at the college level. (She is currently moving into Library Sciences.)

Hi everyone!
Sorry I haven't been on the forum for a few weeks but my mother suffered a number of strokes.
I strongly believe in intercessory prayer & request that you pray for my mother.

I'm asking God to heal her but only FOR HIS NAME'S SAKE. I'd like us to ask God to heal my mother so that HIS NAME WILL BE GLORIFIED.

Thank you guys for reading this message. I am praying for everyone on the prayer list here.

Jesus Christ's Grace is sufficient!

God Bless!

Aletha
