In the small group to which I belong, there are two women who were raised in the Catholic church. They understand the legalism and extrabiblical writings and some other things because of that. I am very thankful for them.

Melissa, I'm way to introverted to dance in the aisles, at least not on a regular basis. :-)

I have learned that God invites us into His "throne room" in worship. And the invitation comes in many ways. There is not always an outward "manifestation", it truly is an inward thing.

I know I've found my self on the floor at embarrassing times (on my face in prayer) when everyone was still standing. God whispers in our ear and takes us by His hand and draws us to Him in many and varied ways. Staying in control is an issue with me sometimes and God knows this and often leads me into situations where He SAYS, "Richard turn loose your in my arms and your safe."

It is dangerous (in a good way) to pray, "Do Your work in me". I'm not a very demonstrative person but I learned not to pray, God I really don't want that to happen in my life. He has a sense of humor and will often in His sovereign will take us by storm.

In His Presence,

Richard

I've learned that as well, Richard. It's funny that dancing is the object at this moment because a couple of weeks ago when I was on praise team, I noticed someone in the back of the sanctuary with his Jewish scarf on dancing across the back. We have a very young children's minister (mid 20s), and I was asking one of the other ladies if she had noticed because it seemed this guy was dancing around this young minister. She laughed and said that particular minister had asked in staff meeting a couple of weeks ago what to do with the dancers, if anything, during the service because it is a fairly new thing for us. As long as they weren't disruptive or blocking the aisle in an unsafe manner, they should be left alone. Sometimes I laugh and think I will one day dance in the aisles too because God has a way of moving us from our strongholds of "I will never....". I actually like that about God on the otherside of the issue, but find some level of discomfort during the process. :-)

<smile> "I will never . . ." is not a safe thing to whisper in your prayers. :-) With me it turns into a prophetic statement and I don't mean to be disrespectful but the answer is often, "You want to bet!!" :-)

We serve an awesome God who continually opens our eyes to His glory and grace working in and through us. The work He does is not always on the intellectual side of our life, he also does a deep work helping us to relax and enjoy spending time in His presence. This ranges from quiet reflection and prayer to jubilant praise.

Melissa, I have no doubt that you will dance before the Lord.

In Christ,

richard

Yes Richard, "I will never..." is a dangerous statement to make. How little we know of what God has in store for us.

Yup, God has often taken me places not long after I've whispered those "fatefull" words, "I will never . . .".

In my human/fleshly part I'm deeply embarrassed and not to happy and yes even angry, but in my spiritual/spirit side I've been deeply blessed.

In Christ,

richard

I have said, "I will never", when it came to posting on an SDA web site, but God had other plans for me. I think, I will eliminate that phrase from my vocabulary.

Just thought you might be interested to know that our letter to the editor about this subject was published, and the author responded to it personally with a note. :-) The author still sidesteps the issue, but another letter to the editor agreed with me (a couple letters also praised the article)
I really didn't think it would be reprinted because it was quite long, so they edited it, but left the longer version online (same with the other letter) Here is the link:

Hannah,

Hopefully, your email to the editor will help some readers to understand that there are no holy days in the Christian calendar. Sunday is a very special day for Christians, but it is NOT the Sabbath. It is perplexing to see various religionists make unauthorized "principles" out of Old Covenant rituals (i.e., sabbathing and tithing). Thank you for sharing your excellent thoughts on this matter.

Thanks! David was all proud of it too, and sent the link to his (adventist) parents. I think he thinks it will be a good witnessing tool, you know getting them to read his opinion on the difference between the old and new covenants. And that may be true. But I can't help but think his parents will read that and somehow hope he is coming back towards Adventist thinking because he is disagreeing with the denomination on this. We will see if they step up their literature. They have been pretty quiet as of late.

Hopefully,
Hannah

Hannah, tell David his letter was absolutely wonderful. What great points he made.

It appears to me that both legalism and post-modernism are creeping into Christianity increasinlgy. On the one handóthe law; on the otheró"grace" without repentance and heart-change. David's letter clearly brought people face-to-face with foundational truth.

Wonderful.
Colleen
