I know that maybe most of you have seen this but wanted to get your reaction to this. What holes do you see in his argument?

Oh, Schasc, I find Bacchiocchi so very hard to read because he is confusing and twists the meanings of Scriptures. This subject of Colossians 2;14-17 and what was nailed to the cross is addressed extremely succinctly in McGregor Wright's article, "the Unity of the Law" in Proclamation. It can be found here:http://formeradvent.temp.powweb.com/Proclamation2005_JulAug.pdf

It might give some perspective to Bacchiocchi's arguments to know that when Dale's first book, Sabbath in Crisis, first came out, Bacchiocchi initiated selling his own mailing list to Dale so Dale could advertise his book via that list. (Making money trumps subject material...)

If you read Sabbath in Christ, your questions will be answered.

Colleen,

Adventist leaders always have answers. There is no question they cannot find an answer for to justify their religion and church. It does sound twisted, confusing, full of too many questions and it just seemed to go on and on and on to me. Like when I would read EGW in the past - it often seemed to go on and on and on. I know some people here like to read some of that stuff, but I would rather stick with the bible. The bible alone is full of enlightenment and nourishment, not the writing of Bacchiocchi or EGW. And I do have a copy of Sabbath in Christ. When I read that I feel much more satisfied spiritually. The Holy Spirit leads us away from such confusion and into the truth.

Galatians 5
Life by the Spirit
16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

I received an email from Jared Olar, a former Worldwide Church of God member who became a Cahtolic in 2000. He wrote to us because he found our forum while he was doing some online research about Samuele Bacchiocchi.

I'm posting a link to his web blog in which he shares some fascinating research he's done into Bacchiocchi's claims that his book "Sabbath to Sunday" received a papal "imprimatur" and was published by the Gregorian Univeristy Press in Rome. He also discusses Bacchiocchi's claims that he graduated from the Gregorian summa cum laude and received a gold medal for his work.

The facts Olar has found are fascinating, and I agree with him: they are worth sharing here. Here's his blog address:

Ha! (Probably--oh, none!)

I definitely need to be proof-read; my mind often does "closure" on my own writing, and I don't see my typos!

Interesting reading. Bacchiocchi was the author our SDA pastor told us to read about wine in the Bible when he could not give us texts to back up abstiance of drinking.

Could there be a pattern here about SDA authors? Plagerism, lying what else?

Membership follows leadership. Ellen made a mint doing it why would someone else not want to try after all they are only human.
By the way who publishes his books and sells them? In other words who is making profits off of the sales?

Samuele Bacchiocchi publishes his own books under the publishing name, "Bliblical Perspective". He makes his own profits.

I just went to Bacciocchi's web site at http://www.biblicalperspectives.com/ and was quite surpised to see that he is now making money selling "discounted" laptops and projectors to SDA members.

The only result at adventistbookcenter.com when I searched for Bacciocchi was his book Immortality or Resurrection?. So it looks like they do sell one of his books at least.

(By the way, doesn't it bother you how they think that if you believe in "immortality" that means that you don't believe in the resurrection?! They try to make it either or!)

Violet,

I threw all of Samuele Bacchiocci's books in my library in the trash several years ago. I am assuming he doesn't compete with Sears in saying, "Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back." However, my wife Sylvia insists that Dr. Bacchiocci owes us a refund (smile).
