Richard found this news note in the March 2007 issue of the Pacific Union Recorder, p. 27, yesterday:

"AdventSource has just launched the church's first comprehensive targeted search engine. It searches web sites created and maintained by organizations and members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Instead of searching the entire Internet, users can search only Adventist sites, including Adventist ministries, businesses, and organizations.

"Adventist organizations, supporting ministries, and ASI members with businesses may submit their web site information to be included. Individual member sites may also be submitted.

"Contact http://search.adventsource/org to try it out."

H-m-m-móit looks to us as if the church is responding to the burgeoning of former Adventist web sites on the internet. This search engine will accomplish two things: Adventists who want information about Adventist "things" (such as Ellen White) will run no risk of discovering sites such as www.ellenwhite.org, for example. Further, they can also know easily what sites are "safe", because they're on AdventSource.

This Adventist search engine, I believe, is designed to keep Adventists from being as likely to find former Adventist websites. I went to it and typed in "Ellen White" and retrieved a LOT of links to places and sources that are complimentary to her. Then I typed in "Shut Door" and "Shut Door Theory", and I got nothing re: Ellen's shut door theory. There were several references to ministries, etc. that have "door" in them, etc., but nothing I could find re: Ellen's Shut Door Theory.

Then I typed in "former Adventist", and the only things I could find were videos and programs designed for winning back lapsed members.

I haven't searched the engine exhaustively, but it's clear that it's there to help people find church-approved information.

Just thought y'all might like to know...

Wow! But remember--they're not a cult!

And when this doesn't work, they'll start selling their own internet access, which blocks out all non-SDA (or Christian at least) web sites.

They blocked it if you are trying to connect with an FAF page open :-)

Just kidding, but it didn't work for me either.

How very sad that they want to control what a person finds on their own time. BUT, God is still in control and there are still all those other search engines that a person can use when God leads a person to it. I am not to worried about it. God will accomplish his purpose. He is so awesome.

Diana I was thinking the same thing! God's search engine is a lot stronger than the Adventist one, haha.

This site does not surprise me in the slightest...it's par for the course. I had to giggle at Jeremy's cult comment. In the world of psychology we call this confirmation bias. In short, "don't bother me with the truth, I'm too busy believing I'm right." I couldn't agree more with Diana and Grace. I'm currently reading Gladston's book "A Theologian's Journey" and this site reminds me of his experiences during his years in the seminary when the cracks begin to appear and he was explicitly told to choose "safe" topics in order to assure his future ascension in the Adventist ranks. It really is sad.

I agree, Cindy. And I'm giggling over Jeremy's comment, too! The more I watch, the more the true nature of Adventism shows up for what it is...

I guess I should not be surprised by what the SDA church does, but I still am. That the church is so afraid of losing members, that they create their own search engine. At least that is they way I see it and it is so sad. I still say, that no matter what any church does, God is still in charge. Thank you God, You are awesome.

"Investigative Judgment" also yeilds an interestingly small amount of material, none of which appears to be on the SDA theory of the Investigative Judgment.

But reading the fine print, it appears to me that this was designed as a resource for church leaders to use when preparing sermons, lessons, etc. In that case, yes, they would want to search only SDA 'approved' resources. I don't fault them too much for the method...after all, it is clear on the site that searches will be limited to SDA approved sites / resources. It is a shame that the searches don't return more information, even if it was limited to approved resources.

I think inquiring minds know how to find Google....

A person that would only use a site such as that and nothing else would be a very small minded and trapped individual indeed.
To even think about boxing in and relegating its church members too limit information available to them is too much to take in if that was the idea behind it.
I really wonder if it will have much effect at all in dumbing Adventist down.
Come to think of it, they are already dumbed down.

And to think Adventists complain about being called a "cult" (LOL)

Hey, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it just might be a duck! ya think?
