LOL! I'm glad they were able to save that young man's life. That was some good thinking. Talk about thinking outside the box!

They would probably say that a doctor can prescribe alcohol as an antidote for a dire situation. Now, I just checked the White Estate's search engine. Nowhere does EGW specifically discourage drinking ethylene glycol. The Time of Trouble requires extreme planning. So perhaps the brethren will look the other way when you put that case of vodka next to the quart of anti-freeze in your TOT stash. You know, someone may spike your green drink. There's always a way around the rules.

Lime Schnapps. When I was a heathen in college my freshman year, my next door dorm neighbor had a stash of this in his fridge. I had toooooo much of it one night. Makes me queasy thinking about it to this day. I think it had a green tint to it, too.

Zjason,

Had the same experience with orange vodka. What was I thinking? I'm sticking with the grapes, it's more Biblical.

Kristen, the Bible probably allows each of you to enjoy your own glass, even for the first time, and on other days besides. Some of us consider every day alike. Also, beer was a useful part of the Old Covenant: it could be purchased with tithe funds. Happy Anniversary, and Cheers!

Grapes aren't necessarily more Biblical. Haven't you ever heard of a grain offering?

I (and the Preacher) tell you to enjoy the fruit of the vine and your labor with a glad heart with your loved one. Have a drink on me. And add a medium rare ribeye while you're at it.

"So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils {throughout} the days of his life which God has given him under the sun." Ecclesiasties 8:15

Talk about a "proof" text...

Happy 11th, Congratulations!

With reference to the debate concerning "wine" versus "grape juice" in the Bible.

Larry's post #245 linked us to a very good article. To go along with that, I recall someone linked us to the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Bramwell_Welch

The point of this article is that non-alcoholic grape juice hadn't even been invented until the year of 1869. Fresh squeezed grape juice ferments within hours of being pressed. Science confirms that the Bible is talking about alcohol when wine is mentioned.

I can testify to this from personal experience. For over two years (1950-1953) I lived at Angwin within a mile of the Pacific Union College on a farm that had a twenty acre vineyard. We pressed, pasteurized and bottle the grape juice and peddled it to all our good SDA friends. What didn't get pasteurized immediately fermented.

Only a blind fool thinks the Bible is referring to anything other than alcohol when wine is mentioned. Of course, the bottom line is that Ellen G. White lied.

Hardcore Ellenites would likely take a position that Jesus the Creator didn't have to wait for non-alcoholic grape juice to be invented.

I think the fresh grape juice argument actually diminishes the miracle at Cana, in the same way many SDA doctrines diminish the divinity of Jesus Christ.

After all, what is the greater miracle, creating fresh grape juice, or grape juice that has already fermented?

My good SDA cousin gave me two bottles of Good California wine on my visit three years ago.

I actually drink less now that i'm ex-sda. Only twice or so a year. Me and the boys get together to watch Wrestlemania on pay per view and tie one on. I'll quit now before i do my Randy Savage impression.

Kris and Chris,
So you are having a drink for each of us congratulating you, it seems. That takes a whole bottle or more. Have a lovely anniversary.
Our awesome God provides us with the nicest things for our pleasure, even wine.
