Greetings everyone,
Some of us would like to study a book of the Bible together "on-line".

The Book will be 1 John. The study will start next week. I'm really excited to see what and how God will reveal Himself to us as we seek to know truth from this book in scripture.

Beginning Exercise

Try to read through the WHOLE book of 1 John before next week.

In Adventism we were taught to look at individual trees, before getting the "full picture of the forest" ... an example of this were the "proof texts" and idea of "here a little - there a little". Therefore, we will have a few boundaries for this study. It is highly recommended NOT to read other authors, commentaries, listen to pastors, etc. on the passages we will be studying until after we have studied the particular verses. Also, we would ask that your comments once the study gets started NOT include quotes from Commentaries, Books, or online personalities. Let us trust that the Holy Spirit can truly lead us into Truth. We don't need outside sources for that. And also, I have seen people use commentaries, authors, or preachers who have authoritative positions to somehow give credence to their argument ..

Sounds great! Will there be some kind of schedule once it starts?

Looking forward to it!

I'm totally in and very excited. Considering what book we're studying, I'm praying for fresh eyes when I read rather than being mentally bombarded with SDA ghosts that remind me what I should think about what I'm reading.

WOW! Such great support! Thank you!

You know you get an idea and wonder if anyone will join you in it. Sounds like we will have a good group for the discussion! Thanks everyone!!!

And since this is my first time in trying to structure an online Bible study I'm open to suggestions on how to make it "user-friendly" and understandable.

In answer to Nikki's question about "Will there be some sort of schedule once it starts?" I've really been pondering that ... This is my thinking ... I would like to "force" myself into a structure where I post every Wednesday and Saturday - new questions and/or a new section of verses to study. I'm going to start the study questions today ... But after today ... I'll be posting new questions every Wednesday and Saturday. NOW, you are free to ask questions on your own .... that will create an even more FUN dynamic ... so don't feel like you have to stick to what I post ... my questions are just to get us all thinking and started.

Lastly, if you don't mind ... I'll post on occasions things that I have learned to cause me to really look at the scriptures with the intent not to "proof-text", but to see what is being said overall. You'll see what I mean later on.

Thanks again!

Sorry,
I meant to post the beginning of the study last night. Ended up canning salsa for the first time and didn't realize it took as long as it did. And here is an FYI for you all :-) ... When the recipe says to wear gloves when chopping hot peppers - DO IT. My hands were burning and tingling horribly for many hours (tried to wash my hands in baking soda - to get them to calm down). Even this morning I have a residue burning sensation. My fingers would have had trouble typing last night :-). So much for being domesticated! Ah, well, live and learn. Ha, ha!

Any ideas how to take away "stinging hands" after cutting up lots of peppers with bare hands? They are miserable today? LOL

Carolyn,
the only thing I have found that helps for 'pepper hands' is cool water and time.
Yes, lesson learned. I keep a bag of thin rubber gloves handy now. You can get a bag of 100 at the dollar store :-)

Oh no, Carolyn!! Perhaps Google will have some cures? So sorry :-( I pray that your hands will be back to normal very soon.

I hope at least the salsa turns out very tasty!
