Well, I just read a book that my mom sent me called "Time for a Verdict" by Allen Barnes, published by "His Marvelous Light Ministries."

It was in the style of a courtroom case, with Mr. Sabbath being the defendant, and Mr. Sunday being the prosecutor. It really was awful. It's easy to come out the victor when you write your opposition's side. The Prosecution was really quite dismal at defending their side, but then, the story had sides wrong. The prosecution (Sunday) was upset over the veneration being paid to Saturday by some people--the "usurpation of the seat, rightfully held by Mr. Sunday." It would be more accurate to change Mr. Sunday to Jesus.

Anyone else read this book?

I have been trying to dialogue with a couple of my family members over this issue using only scripture, but perhaps I should respond in kind and send a former Adventist book, like Sabbath in Christ. I haven't read any of those, though, so I'd need to find one and read it, then send it.

Found their website. They have the nerve to call themselves nondenominational.

Riiiight.

Ironically, they're charging for their version of the Bible, but they'll send you the Great Controversy for free.

Hmmm.

That sounds like one loony book! My SDA kin love those looney SDAish books. They make me gag. Good luck with your loved ones. They first need to pray And asked the lords guidence in their quest for understanding truth.

Katarain; maybe you could tell your mom that there is no "Mr. Sunday" to real Christians. Jesus fulfilled the Sabbath and the observance of Sunday is just a false rule that some people have set up.

Adventists quote Matthew 5:17-18 that says not one jot or tittle would pass from the law or the prophets, until all is fulfilled. What do they think the sacrificial system is then? That's part of the law and the prophets! Obviously all the law and the prophets have been fulfilled because otherwise people would still have to offer sacrifices! I don't understand how Adventists fail to get that! It's as if they stand on their heads, chew gum and squeeze one side of their heads really hard to distract them from understanding the verse - so they can just focus on key words to keep it from saying what it says... It's either all or nothing. Either a person is supposed to keep the WHOLE law or it's all been fulfilled!

When I was an adventist, I was taught that when
JESUS said, "It is finished," HE meant that HIS
earthly ministry was over!

HE had fulfilled the "plan" to live with a "sinful nature" on earth, without sinning.
Because of the close connection HE had with HIS Heavenly Father,
HE had given "man" an example that he could do the same.

Also, HE had "atoned" for man's sins(on the Cross) up to the present time.
Everyone after the "Cross" was on probation!

This is the best I can recall from my many years as an adventist~
I really try to forget the details of this heresy.
I am sure other "Formers" were most probably taught some of what I shared,
and other heresies regarding the "Cross".

I never really thought about what Jesus meant - back when I was an Adventist - when He said that. If I'd asked, I'd probably have been told that Jesus didn't mean that, but that He meant something else - like Mj was told.

In fact there's lots of places in the Bible that I thought didn't mean what they said; such as Philippians 1:21-25 "...My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account...."
and Colossians 2:16-17 "Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ."
and Ephesians 1:13-14 where it says that the believers were sealed with the Holy Spirit when they believed.

I figured that the SDA church had explanations for these and other verses, but I'd tend to jump over them when I read the Bible. For that second one, I likely would have accepted the SDA explanation that those three groupings of Sabbaths meant two groupings - festivals, New Moons and festivals.
