Lutherans aren't known for having many sermons on the book of Revelation, so I was quite interested in our sermon last week. The passage was Rev 12, I think 1-12 or 7-12. The pastor focused on the subject of Spiritual Warfare. His key points:
1) Holy War in the Old Testament showed how people relied on God to fight for them.
(2) Spiritual Warfare with angels began in the revolt of Lucifer (Satan) and his angels who still had access to heaven (ie Satan's conversation with God about Job)
(3) Our involvement in Holy War and Spiritual Warfare is to realize that God has fought and won for us in Jesus Christ who has defeated sin, Satan and death.
(4) We need to be aware of Spiritual Warfare so that Satan does not deceive us by his attacks, and that by faith we rely on the victory Christ has already won.

Ha! My crowd is not known for bringing a sermon from Rev. either.

But what I think (in case you might be interested) is that the church (thats us) really knows less about spiritual warfare than any other subject.

Years ago I read a couple of novels written by Frank Peretti. Even though they are novels it really opened my eyes about spiritual welfare. Granted it is fiction but it did bring to life Satans minions.
If interested you can get them on Amazon.

Rick, what an interesting outline of points! I love the central point that Jesus is the One who defeats Satan, even in our individual lives, and our position is to be aware, discerning, and relying on Him.

Yes, Colleen. That was my strong take away from the sermon as well. My other takeaway was that the battle was about faith/doubt.
