I would like to share something my daughter wrote recently. She is an SDA young adult and I believe her thoughts expressed in what I will share is what a lot of SDA young adults are thinking as well. They need hope. Here is my daughter's "poem":

I'm so tired
of the 3 Angel's Messages
of Babylon and its beasts
of the tearing down of the Catholic church

I've heard it preached all my life
And I used to be intrigued
but now I see it doesn't encourage
It seems to cause paranoia and fear

It is like politics
where people tear down their opponent
rather than sharing what they stand for
I'm just so tired of the hopeless message

I am desperate for hope
I need hope
I need to hear about Jesus
I need to hear how to become like him

But again and again I don't get it from the church
instead I get sermons on evangelism
on Babylon and the beasts

I AM TIRED OF IT

PLEASE LORD SEND ME SOME HOPE

CAUSE I AM DISILLISIONED AND DESPERATE FOR TRUTH

Hi! 76 year old curmudgeon here.
Was a member (NOT raised SDA) for 36 years, left 8-10 years ago. My wife of 50 years is a very active second generation member of the SDA Church, so I've been kept up to date on the goings on in their church.
My observations and conclusion?
Rampant apathy/indifference.
Adventists do not believe they are SINNERS, so the Gospel is incomprehensible.
Adventist 'hope' is based on their works...reluctantly coming to church on the 'Seventh Day' (quite a few show up just for the sermon), mumble through the song service, reluctantly paying their tithe (some actually calculate to the penny, no rounding up (my wife is the treasurer)), reluctantly serving...
Because they reject that their salvation is 100% the work of God, there is NO attitude of gratitude for what God has done to save them.
All that is left for them is to 'preach' on peripheral issues.

John Douglas
Born a sinner, a sinner by nature
Saved by God's grace alone
through faith alone
in Christ alone

This post just breaks my heart truly. Its the same song and dance. Fear. There is hope for her. Encourage her to just read her bible and nothing else. Read it for herself with no EG White. Just her and God, tell her HE will reveal to her truth. Have her Read Galatians. It is so powerful to read the word with an open heart and mind Not with SDA goggles. Prayers for her sweet soul. The fact that she wrote that is actually God tugging on her heart.

Freedom55, I agree with Jonvil and Randiehm above. I feel for your daughter. Tell her to ask the Lord to reveal truth to her, and suggest she read Galatians every day for a month. Truth is THERE.

The word of God is living, and it will does its work that it was given to do.

With prayers for her,
Colleen

Thank you for your comments & prayers. My daughter is truly seeking a relationship with Jesus & her poem emphasizes that the SDA church is failing/has failed miserably to accomplish that. I have had the privilege of being able to have long discussions with my daughter regarding my journey and I think she is finding herself taking the same journey. I will encourage her to study through Galatians & will keep you posted.

What a deep, insightful poem! For various reasons, I accompanied my still SDA wife on a Saturday recently and was struck by the fact that the Gospel was completely missing from the whole day - Sabbath School, service, afternoon programme. No Gospel at all. In it's place a message which basically says "You're not working hard enough, you're no good. You've got to work harder, you've got to become a better person". What saddened me even further was when I realised it was just same message I'd heard over the whole time I'd been an SDA. No wonder the young people need hope.

Ammishaddai, welcome to the forum!

What a sad but clear-sighted commentary on that Adventist day of worship. I've often thought that Adventism is a bit like an inoculation. It creates a resistance to the true gospel. It's a "look alike" that deceives people, and when they hear the true thing, they are predisposed to not believe.

Again, welcome!

Colleen that is so true. When I went back this year to Adventist Campmeeting (my brother was getting ordained) I could not believe the messages I heard, they were exactly the SAME stuff I heard almost 40 years ago in Academy and campmeeting at that time. We are the remnant, we are the end time church, we have the Sabbath. Nothing about the love of God, Jesus what he has done for us and his grace and his righteous judgement. It is no wonder that the people have no Joy or spark. They look beat down, and quiet honestly there is very little Youth to even middle adults. Lots of Elderly people. Very sad.

Freedom 55,
I can relate to your daughters plight. I was a Sevie from 24-50. And hearing the same thing for more than 2 decades was terrible. I would have left 10 years earlier than I did, but for several reasons that didn't happen. I was so sick of the same old thing, sick of not hearing about Christ and the rest of the bible that was never preached, sick of the SDA pridefulness (which is so misplaced!), just sick of the whole pile of poo. Thankfully, my husband (who was a generational SDA,) and my daughter and I have been out close to 15 years.

Is your daughter in college? Are you attending a non-SDA church? Is she open to attending another church? Is she open to the idea that the SDA church isn't true?
