I, too, wish you to say hello to you, Skeeter. I do not know SDA official stand on suicide / salvation. I'm thinking perhaps your MIL does not know, either. Thank God we can and do belong to Jesus Christ. It took me quite a while to realize my name only needed to be written in the Lamb's book of Life and could be (and should be-and eventually was) severed from the SDA church membership.

One net source attributes the quote to Abraham Lincoln, with slightly different wording, "When a man who is honestly mistaken hears the truth, he will either quit being mistaken or cease to be honest." Another claims its origin is unknown. Looks to me like it's public domain!

Welcome Skeeter and Nowisee!! wow... I haven't been on here for a few days and we've grown!! Skeeter I COMPLETELY understand not wanting to join another church. I've been attending a non-denominational church for this past year and a half... they have NO membership!! Isn't that cool? I consider myself a part of their community... but I don't have to be "voted" in. :-D Now it seems crazy that I had to be "voted" in by OTHER PEOPLE into the "remnant" church. Whatever happened to God's vote?

well... I guess we have some shirts to make! I'll get my husband right on this...

I'll have Sergio put something together and then I'll post it on the member's side. Just to make sure I get the quote right:

"When a man who is honestly mistaken hears the truth, he will either quit being mistaken or cease to be honest."

This will be fun!

:-) That's the way Lincoln said it. The Church Bulletin version was a bit catchier though: "When a man who is honestly mistaken learns the truth, he will either quit being mistaken or quit being honest."

I suppose that last could also be said "cease to be mistaken or cease to be honest."

I'll stop now before I confuse myself further!

Blessings and good night,

Mary

"When a man who is honestly mistaken learns truth, he will either quit being mistaken or quit being honest."

No offense to good ole Abe....LOL but personally I prefer the way it was worded in the Church Bulletin. I think "Hearing" and "Learning" are (or can be) two quite different things.
In more modern terms I think "quit" is easier understood nowdays than "cease" by most people. Might make a better impact on those reading it . And the whole purpose (I think) is to wear it as a statement that can easily be understood. :-)
As soon as I get a shirt I will have to wear it to my son's church where I saw it in their bulletin and show them. LOL I bet several there will want a shirt too. :-)

Hi Francie~

I'll use your version. I like "learning" instead of "hearing" also. When it's done, I'll post it.

I can't find the Bulletin I saw it in... I am now trying to remember if it was
"When a man who is honestly mistaken....
OR if it read "When a man who has been honestly mistaken.....
But either way it gets the point across,,, so which ever you think is best I am sure will be great. :-)

Skeeter,

You are in good company. Facebook lacks guidelines explaining what or how to do things.

Move down to the members section of the forum and I will give you my email address. Then contact me and I will lead you "into the fold".

Thanks Phil :-)
I am now on FB and surprised that some people on my regular email list popped up on there. :-)
I might get the hang of it someday... although it seemslately I have been spending most of my time on HERE and since I am fairly new here I am trying to go back and catch up on old posts.
So much information on here. :-)In fact.... I am kinda wondering.. with THIS forum, why do I even need Facebook ??

Francie,

You have a good question concerning Facebook. We all started on Facebook simply as a method for shareing pictures and the "little things" going on in our lives that didn't need posting here. Anyway, I am here at work now taking my morning break. The company has 'locked out' Facebook so I will have to wait until I'm home to check out whats new there. Before I left the house this morning I saw where Vivian and I had connected with you on Facebook.

Most of what Facebook has to offer is of no interest to me. It does have a Chat mode that I like to use. It also allows you to send messages to the others on your list of friends. Beyond that, I just like posting pictures and looking at the one others have posted. When you do go to someone's album, you will notice that you can make comments.

It does eat up a lot of time so I tend not to go there on a regular basis.

Fearless Phil
