I just don't get it. It all seems so simple, why all the studies, books, sermons and confusion?

I have listened to and participated in many, many Revelation Seminars and studies of the SDA version of the 2300 days.

In the Greek writings it refers to this as the 2300 evenings and mornings, which SDA's interpret as 2300 days (then the days are years...I know, a head-scratcher). I understand how they can morph this into being days because we in the Western world think of evening + morning = 1 day X 2300 =2300 days.

They skip over the most powerful evidence which is that the Jewish people, then and now, interpreted the prophecy in Daniel as being fulfilled when the sanctuary was cleansed. As I understand it this was approximately 3 1/2 years or 1150 days (half of the 2300). It is hard to get an exact count of days, just as it is hard for SDA's to get their numbers to work out exactly without a lot of whipsawing.

The point they conveniently skip over is that the people that actually observed the "evening and morning" rituals accepted this as the correct definition of "2300 evenings and mornings" written about in Daniel.

How do they get any credibility for this nonsense? They look at something 3,000 years later and presume to know more about daily observances than the people of the time that were actually observing them?

The Jews celebrate this miracle as Hanukkah, formerly known as the Festival of Lights. For a more complete study of Hanukkah just Google it.

It makes you crazy.

I mentioned this to some sda's, and the response was that the Jews were confused by the Jesuits who made up the explanation about Antiochus Epiphanes.

It all goes back to the RCC, the Jesuits, the Illuminati, etc. etc.

Did the Jesuits exist before Jesus?

This information can be confirmed in the Jewish Encyclopedia online, OR, better yet, just go ask a rabbi.

Also, how often can a prophesy be fulfilled? Especially if it's specifically for the Jews, which Daniel's was. Are there any instances of religious groups being able to take ownership of another culture/religious group's prophesy? 'Cause I think that's what the SDA system is trying to do here...

I agree, Leigh Anne. And Dt, yes. It's hard to imagine how the Adventists have been able to get away with completely ignoring Hannukah and the Macabees/Antiochus Epiphanes. Christians everywhere know this historical even to be the fulfillment of that vision.

Moreover, the second half of Daniel 8 explains the vision and clearly articulates that the little horn that desecrates the temple grows out of the Greek empire, not out of Rome.

Hah Katarain, that's a good question. I should have asked that one. I'm afraid that I would get the answer that the 'Jesuits re-wrote history'. I heard that answer just this weekend with regards to something else similar.

When all else fails, they will resort to disbelieving history even. Or suggest that the RCC re-wrote the history and fooled everyone...

Hehe, yeah, I don't think the Jews get their history from the RCC.

Well hey, Loyola and his Jesuits really were and are actively practicing evil, and the Illuminati(In form and function if not in name) is real, but nothing to fret over. Loyola's contemporaries even knew this and you can find many an interesting quote about him and the evil he was doing.

But of course this doesn't mean that the Jesuits should be our go-to villains every time something goes wrong. :-)

I don't know about evil but.... one of my favorites:

A Dominican dies and goes to heaven, humbly knocks on the door, and is let in without any fanfare. One day, a long time later, he notices lots of commotion. Flowers are arranged, all the candles are lit, and a red carpet is rolled out. He asks an angel what's going on, and is told that they are preparing to welcome a Jesuit into heaven. Perplexed, he asks St. Peter, "I always thought there would be justice and equality in heaven, with no one receiving preferential treatment. Why are you going to such great lengths to welcome a Jesuit, whereas you hardly took any notice of me when I arrived?" St. Peter tells him in reply, "Don't you see? Another Dominican enters heaven almost every week, but you can't imagine how long it's been since we welcomed the last Jesuit up here!"

Personal bias here, I'm a member of the Third Order of St. Dominic myself.

That's funny. :-)
You can also replace the dominican and jesuit with whatever you want, and it's still funny. :-)

That IS funny. :-) The Jesuits, historically, are nothing like the Dominicans or any other order, their weirdness and activities, and the fact that a pope wanted to ban them at one point (maybe they were banned at one point) has been responsible for much of the belief in a black pope, and catholic involvement in the new world order/illuminati

If anyone is interested I could dig that research back out.

Suffice it to say I was saddened, "The Mission" was one of my favorite movies, now I have to pretend some other monastic order is mentioned. :-)
