G'day all. This will be only a brief look at the topic.
In Patriarchs and Prophets White states that; " anything that contradicts God's word we may be sure is from Satan" p55. If she is going to assert this regarding others then it is only right that her writings also be subjected to the same scrutiny.
But before I give a glaring example of where she is in blatant contradiction of a plain statement Jesus made I just wish to reflect on her writings in general and what judgement God passes on them.
Apparently Ellen was warned about her habit of borrowing from others. I have heard over the years that her borrowing was quite acceptable as there were no laws regarding plagiarism in force in her time. I have also heard that this is not true and there were laws clearly in place. To me the argument is totally redundant in as much as God is quite clearly against using other people's work and has been since at least Jeremiah wrote his book. In Jer 23:30 Jeremiah states; "Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, says The Lord, that steal my words every one from his neighbour."
It is openly acknowledged by the SDA organization that white 'borrowed' much of what was in her books. God plainly says that he is against that sort of behavior. That it is theft.
Much of the content of White's books is of exceptional spiritual insight. No doubt that sounds like blasphemy to many of you. Let me explain.
If I,euphemistically, 'borrow' the great painting "Mona Lisa"; it is still a great painting, even though it has been stolen. A discerning critic will still recognize the 'inspiration' and genius of the great artist. It matters little that I, who never progressed past infant grade 3 stick figures, claim it as my own work. (I hope you get the parallel) It is still a great painting. However. In Australia it is a criminal offense to be in possession of stolen goods and I guess it is much the same in any law abiding country. So there came a time for me that no matter how good some of the content was it was against a plain statement of God in Jeremiah and also I was in possession of stolen goods. My stolen goods are now on the rubbish tip.
The SDA organization needs to return the stolen goods to the rightful owners. They can do this by acknowledging the original authors. They should also make restitution for the knowing ongoing theft of that material.
At the start I talked about contradiction. How would you personally feel, if something that you were teaching, you discovered was in blatant contradiction to something Jesus personally taught? I think most of us would be embarrassed, even mortified, and correct your position immediately. But not so White and the SDA organization. The SDA organization teaches, based on White alone, because it is surely not taught in the New Covenant, that you must abstain from unclean food. There is so much in White's writings on this subject it is redundant to give a quote. However, in Mark 2:19 Mark writes; "that in so saying Jesus pronounced all food (broma) clean." In Romans 14:14 Paul states; "I know, and am persuaded by The Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself."
When Paul writes to Timothy he tells Timothy that the Holy Spirit expressly says that in the last days some "shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of demons." What are these teachings of demons? Tim4:3 "Forbidding to marry, to abstain from meats (broma), which God has created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth." There is a religious organization that forbids it's priests to marry. That causes much heartache. It is a doctrine of demons.
There are many foods which I don't eat because I don't like the taste, texture or what they do to my health. But to refuse to eat food because you mistakingly believe the Bible prohibits it is placing you in the company of demons.
If any Adventists are reading this I challenge you to get out your Strongs Concordances and see for yourself.
The Bible concludes by giving a warning that nobody is to add to or take away from the words of the book. White and the Adventist organization do both. Firstly with her 200,000 approx pages of writings which you have to accept , before you are officially at least, allowed to be baptized. Secondly they take away the simplicity of the New Covenant by substituting their own teachings for very plain statements. Even to the point of being in blatant contradiction with Jesus himself.
It took me a long time to be able to finally admit that, no matter how well intentioned many in the SDA organization are, it is none the less a cult.
I am grateful God us called me out from Babylon.
The Aussie.

There was a song I heard back when I was a kid that came (I think) from the movie: "Mary Poppins." One of the lines of the song is: "Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down - in the most delightful way!"

Greg, you mentioned the good stuff that Ellen White said. Well, Satan is smart enough to know that if he introduced a religion based ENTIRELY on lies and evil, a lot more people would catch on that it's false. Of all the false religions, SDAism is one of the most "believable" of the religions because there's good stuff and almost-right stuff mixed in. So in their case, the song would have to go: "just a spoonful of sugar makes the poison go down - in the most delightful way."

And of course, Adventist would say: "Ellen White didn't contradict the Bible. She EXPLAINS the Bible!"

Greg, very good insights. I agree. I especially liked your suggestion that the SDA organization return the stolen goods and pay for the damages...what a great idea!
