While wondering through the online Adventist World Magazine I came across this quote under the heading of The Cross and the Law:

quote:

Ultimately it is important that we realize that the cross defines love (John 3:16) while the law demands love (John 14:15; 1 John 5:2). We keep the law (which appears in tandem to the testimonies of Jesus in Revelation 12:17). Only true understanding of the cross and the law makes a complete Christian. The testimony of Jesus Christ and Godís law go together and are a marker of Godís end-time people.

Iím posting it to get a reaction so folks whale away.

Phil~

I just read this~ My first reaction is nothing can "demand" you to "love".

That quote above is beyond "twisted"!

Perhaps I will respond again later, when I give myself time to calm down!

I knew that is what they believed but i thought they'd be embarrassed to put it out publically.

It's all confusion. They are committing "Galatianism"óreturning to the law (well, never leaving the law, actually) and denying their members the grace of God in the Lord Jesus.

They have taken onto themselves the curse of the law while insisting they stand under the cross. They are completely wrong; Jesus nailed the law to the cross in His body (Col 2:14-15; Eph. 2:14). This is all deception.

I'm with MJ...it really upsets me...

God's will is always done. Where the SDAs miss the boat is in failing to understand that God's will in us is accomplished by the Holy Spirit. This is why Paul says in Galations 5:

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

In reality they are denying the power of God to do what he says He will do. They are insisting that they must do this part because God is not able.

quote:

ďFor God so loved the world, that he gave us... two things... the Torah and the Messiah.Ē

This is a quote from a recent sermon I heard from a SDA pastor on the old and new covenants. Referencing John 3:16, he makes a not-so-subtle attempt to reinterpret scripture by adding to it. It fully reveals Adventism's low view of the authority of scripture alone.

I really wonder if the guy who said that about the Torah realizes that everything recorded in the first five books of the bible is the Torah? While I'm certainly not the one who counted them but I am told that the Torah contains 613 laws, not just the ten Adventist like to talk about.

Like I said....I'm just wondering.

Phil, I found some where here on the internet all 613 laws. Very interesting. I did not book mark it so I have no place to link for you.
