"When Vernon was nine, he began attending a local Seventh-day Adventist church, the denomination of his motherís childhood. From this dedicated training, he derived a foundation upon which to build his own religious system. His belief system included a remnant mentality, that is to say, the idea of one small pack faithfully preserving Godís truth throughout a period of apostasy. He also developed an unhealthy preoccupation with prophecy and a strong belief in modern-day prophets. His Seventh Day Adventist teachings on prophecy and modern-day prophets set the ultimate stage for his bizarre behavior and ultimately fiery end in Waco, Texas." -Prophets of the Apocalypse, David Koresh and Nine other American Messiahs

Last week at the Evangelical Ministries to New Religions (EMNR) conference, one of the workshops was given by a woman who had been at Waco. She was drawn in by her sister and BIL who both had backgrounds in Adventism.

The woman actually lost her grip on reality while there, and they eventually sent her to a mental hospital where her parents came and got her. Her sister died in the Waco conflict.

One of the apologists at the conference said he'd love to see a diagram showing how many cultic off-shoots actually have roots in Adventism. There are a whole lot.

DK was actually passing out literature on the campus of Atlantic Union College during camp meeting years ago. He was told to leave. Scary to know he was at my Alma mater. I wonder if anyone there went to Waco.
