I was having a discussion about Nephilim with a friend who claimed these "giants" survived the flood and are still among us somehow. Hence I was researching fallen angels and came across this site. http://www.roadtobetterliving.com/index2.html this in turn had links that led me to other sites, all had clearly SDA messages if you know what to look for(e.g. misquoting Ezekial 28 and Revelation 14 to start with) but no mention of EGW and hidden mention of SDA.

Is this a common tactic? Get people hooked with the "this is the TRUE scripture not the corrupted version taught by other faiths" and then ease EGW in later? My major objection to SDA (before I realised the extent of their misquoting scripture) was EGW as a prophet. I might have been hooked had I not been a more critical thinker so it could be an effective tactic but it raises some interesting questions.

Oh, and the Nephilim thing, we are still working on but I have shown him that most of the "evidence" he was talking about were hoaxes or misinterpreted scripture.

God Bless

Yes. the SDA are known to be deceptive until some one is totally hooked. They never advertise who they are when there are prophecy or revelation seminars, or anything else they do.

They are probably not "hiding" her more but are trying to "mainstream" her.

For example, their edited version of The Great Controversy which they call The Great Hope has much (if not most) of the comments against Catholics edited out of it. This version is the one that has been sold in bulk and mailed to homes around the USA within the past two years, prepping people for the intentional "push" of their Evangelism To the Cities program which they have started this year in New York and plan to spread out to the major cities of the world.

The Adventists have the most organized, intentional, progressive plan to proselytize in North America going on right now that I've ever seen. They are absolutely using EGW at the heart of this plan, and I've both read and heard Ted Wilson, GC President, stating that they are using The Great Controversy as the book to pique people's interest because that is the publication of which EGW herself said should be the most widely distributed of all Adventist books. The reason is clear: The Great Controversy describes the Adventist worldview that makes Adventism the one true religion, Adventists the remnant, Satan the scapegoat, Jesus the one who stands in heaven poring over the records, and Sabbath the dividing mark between the saved and the lost.

But they erase the most offensive parts of the book in order to hook people in. People have no idea initially that the author of that book is considered a prophet; they just know they've been hooked in by the "insights" into prophecy.

So Adventism is "normalizing" Ellen while pushing her forward, making her name familiar. And they're not just normalizing her by removing the anti-Catholic and anti- "apostate Protestantism" statements from her book. They are actively pushing vegan cooking schools and lifestyle clinics and classes, never hinting at first that this is all about Adventism and their prophet. But as they become hooked, they reveal.

No, they're not dropping EGW. Ted Wilson is actively endorsing her and pushing Adventists to read her, and they're sending her books out around the world...edited slightly so as not to offend initially.

Oh, it's a deceptive movement...

Wow! It's really saying something when they recognise their own prophet is so unpalatable they have to hide her. But then parents will hide nutritious veges in spaghetti sauce to get kids to eat them so it probably seems ok to them :-)

And they say the Great Deceiver is ....?

When I was an Adventist, I didn't think having a prophet was unpalatable. I just thought that people would think that "we Adventists" were weird because we had one. I felt that it was best to not advertise just what "we" believed at first - that it would be better to bring people in, starting with the obvious prophecies in Daniel (that I didn't know all Christians who know their Bibles are familier with) and then moving on to the Adventist ones. Then, not till last, using the verses taken out of context like that one in Revelation 19:10. I didn't know "the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." I thought the testimony of Jesus was Ellen White. All the prophets of the Old Testament testified of Jesus and had prophesied until John. I didn't know that. I wouldn't have believed Matthew 11:13 as an Adventist! I would have thought it meant whatever way the Adventist leaders would have said...

"For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John" Matthew 11:13

I would have thought, "no way could the prophets and the law have only prophesied until John the Baptist! WE ADVENTISTS keep the law and Ellen White testifies to that!" I thought the "testimony of Jesus" meant that an end times prophet would come along.
I didn't know that the "law" was the Old Covenant - Deut. 4:13
I didn't know that covenant was ONLY given to Israel - Deut. 5:2-3
I didn't know the old covenant was now obsolete - Hebrews 8:13
I didn't know that Jesus brought in a New Covenant by His death - Hebrews 9:15-17
(In fact I didn't know the Bible at all except for what little the Adventist church taught and what little they did, they twisted.)

I didn't see Revelation 19:10 for what it said - that all the prophets in the Bible testified of Jesus. Even John the Baptist said: "Behold the Lamb, Who takes away the sin of the world!" I would have thought. "No, that's wrong. Jesus' blood transfers our sins to the Heavenly Sanctuary where God will have to sit surrounded by sin until Satan can take it away!"

Asurprise, it's funny you said people would think of Adventists as a bit weird. The bible says the chosen will be a peculiar people. Even God didn't say His chosen would be full-blown weird, just peculiar.

A friend showed me a book her mother sent me and as I read the back cover a light bulb went on so I went and looked at who published it and I told her it was sda (even though it did not say so) and to stay away from any books published by them. Her mother who is a recovered alcoholic and can not get around lives on all kinds of religious programs. This friend is a new christian and I worry about her getting the wrong teachings.

Perhaps you can give them a book to, "take the place of," the
"undesirable" book ?!

I will pray for you, for your friend and her mother.
