The year was 1844 and something was astir
Because the plucky Millerites thought big things would occur
But when they woke the morning of October 23
They all were disappointed and the cause was clear to see

The flock had played the numbers game and got the math all wrong
And now two cent’ries later we remember with this song
That if you need a certain way to flee the coming wrath
Then get a guy who knows his stuff before you do the math

Or better yet don’t set a date for when things should occur
And don’t tell anyone your thoughts no matter if you’re sure
Oh spare a thought for Miller while remembering his plight
For it was he who led the flock that cold October night

The legacy he left behind still haunts us to this day
Though many wish the numbers thing would simply go away
For now instead of saying that the earth was being cleansed
We got the funny notion that the Judgment had commenced

Initiated by the King’s decree, 457 starting
Then add in seven decades to the true prophetic charting
Subtract 490 from 2 thousand and 3 hundred
Which takes you right up to the end of days divinely numbered

Oh yes, of course, how silly that we never saw before…
Investigative Judgment starts in 1844
For if you know prophetically a day is like a year
The Sanctuary Doctrine, then, quite readily appears

And with the Prophet’s blessing we are certain that it’s true
Though other Bible scholars still don’t have the slightest clue
Which means that it’s our duty to proclaim it to the rest
To prove that we’re the Remnant whose theology is best.

Happy Disappointment Day !!!!

Great poem, Animal... So ironic and so true... It is so sad that there are still so many good and honest Christians in need for Christ but trapped in that paranoid cult... I pray the real gospel find a way to their hearts somehow...

October 22: Seventh-day Adventists Remember Their Great Disappointment

October 21, 2013 at 11:25pm

This October 22 marks the 169th anniversary of the Great Disappointment: the day Jesus failed to return as predicted by William Miller in 1844. Most of those who faced the dawn of October 23 eventually repented of their date-setting and returned to their churches. A few, however, refused to lose face, and they devised an explanation to validate their belief that something happened on October 22; they had simply been wrong about the event.

After one of them, a man named Hiram Edson, had a revealing vision in a cornfield, this small group established the doctrine of the investigative judgment to explain that instead of returning to earth that fateful day, Jesus had moved His ministry from the Holy Place to the Most Holy Place in the heavenly sanctuary. There He began "applying His blood" to cover the confessed sins of all who claimed to believe in Him. This invention, which describes an ongoing atonement not completed on the cross, became the defining doctrine of what became the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Led primarily by James White and his prophetess-wife Ellen Gould Harmon White along with Joseph Bates, this organization coalesced around a core of unbiblical doctrines devised to support their face-saving judgment.

Officially incorporated in 1863, the Seventh-day Adventist Church mimics Christianity, but underneath its orthodox-sounding language hides a fallible Jesus who didn't know whether or not He would rise from the tomb and who is engaged in an unresolved battle with Satan, an incomplete atonement, Satan as the scapegoat who will bear the sins of the saved into the lake of fire and be punished for them, and a belief in the observance of the seventh-day Sabbath as the seal of God which is the distinguishing mark of the saved. Worship on Sunday, in the Adventist worldview, is the mark of the beast. All of these beliefs are explained and endorsed by Adventism's prophetess Ellen G. White, who is, in the words of their Fundamental Belief #18, "…a continuing and authoritative source of truth."

Today, Seventh-day Adventism is engaged in extensive, highly-funded proselytizing and is one of the fastest-growing churches with a current membership of approximately 18,000,000 worldwide. Their Revelation Seminars and proliferation of television and online channels appeal to Christians especially, and if one is poorly grounded in Scripture, the Adventist appeal can be deceptively convincing.

On this anniversary of the Great Disappointment, it is appropriate to sound a warning to all who believe Seventh-day Adventism is just one more Christian denomination. While they have done a good job of superficially blending into the Christian milieu, if one traces the branches of their organizational "tree" backwards down the trunk and into the roots, one will discover that they are not rooted in the apostolic gospel as Christian denominations are. Rather, they are an independent plant rooted in a false Jesus, a false trinity, a different gospel, and a false prophet.

Great poem. Very clever. 169 years of clinging to a delusion in a feeble attempt to save face. It's all about pride, isn't it? So sad! "Only in Christ is the veil lifted."
