P.S. I was able to take the survey today.

Bob; that relative dying in despair on his deathbed really grieved my spirit. :-( My dad is 80 years old and adamently NOT a Christian. If he's ever in that position, I hope he will finally listen to the good news. He was raised a legalistic Adventist. I hope that he will eventually accept the Lord and realize that he never knew the Lord as a legalistic Adventist. His mother died over two decades ago. She was always busy busy busy. On Sabbath she just changed kinds of work and gave Bible studies all afternoon. Another thing: I never sensed the Lord's actual Presence when I was an Adventist. I didn't until after becoming a Christian. I wonder if that's what Jesus meant when He referred to people who will say to Him at the judgment: "didn't we do all this stuff for you?" and He will answer "I never knew you." I thought He was speaking metaphorically when I was an Adventist - that "Jesus-in-my-heart" was just obeying Jesus; being good and all that. But Jesus really dwells in a Christian's heart through the Holy Spirit. :-)

Yes, Martin, you've said well what I also experience. To know God is truly sovereign has completely changed my worldview.

Asurprise
Yes, it was hard to deal with.
But think of this.
Why would the Lord lay it on our hearts to pray for a person for decades if He didn't plan to save that person?
The future may be brighter than we think.
I certainly hope so!

Bobj and Asurprise, your stories are such a strong reminder of walking in faith where God has placed us. With my own nearly 80-year old dad, I've never met a single person who is more militantly anti-Christian than he. He was also raised strict Adventist; his father was a pastor and evangelist. I keep praying for him, while I don't feel impressed to argue with him any longer. And like you said Bob, the future can be brighter than anyone of us can think.

I was able to take the survey yesterday!

I read a book a few years ago that was about teens who were leaving the adventist church. Their conclusion at that time was that they were leaving because of "negative experiences." I see that they are trying very hard to reach that same conclusion with this survey as well.

I wonder if they are trying to skew these results so that they can place the blame for people leaving the church on their own members instead of their doctrine. I haven't read this whole thread so someone may have mentioned this earlier.

Hi Bob~

I understand that frustration and sadness when you see the burden our adventist relatives live under... especially when they pass away and they lived under that false theology.

My dad passed away 3 years ago at Loma Linda. I went out there to be with my mom and I'll never forget what happened. The very first person that I witnessed giving her condolances told her "... at least we'll see Wilson in heaven." My mom's gaze fell to the floor, she shook her head and then said, "I hope so." She DIDN'T KNOW if she would see my dad in heaven even though he lived and believed adventist theology. so sad...

When my dad died, he had Alzheimers and I couldn't ask him about what he believed about Christ. By then, his mind was gone.

It's all sad to see that's how our relatives end up... with no hope and fear of being stuck in the ground for eternity.

Hey, all. I took the survey a few days ago and today I got an email saying: "Please visit our new website www.adventist-help.org"

Now, I didn't put my email address in the survey and since I've never been an adventist, have never been on any adventist record. The ONLY thing I've done was fill out that survey. Coincidence? Or was there phishing going on there?

I'm highly suspicious.

Melissa,

I don't think that I've received that particular message, but since taking the survey my junk mail has increased from about 1-3 emails a day to about 15 or more. I also didn't leave my email address in the survey. Anyone else noticed anything odd going on since taking this survey?

I also received the Adventist-help e-mail. But I did not leave my e-mail address at the survey site when I took it, so it probably is not related.

Hec,

It has to be related. I have never been contacted by Adventist sites without having first contacted them myself in some way.

I took the survey at least a week ago and gave a brand new Gmail address I've never before used for anything else. So far, no communication has come as a result of the survey.

What did yall think? That they were all ready to listen to anything negative, and that they really wanted to know what you thought?

Say, I just happen to have this little piece of land out in the desert, plenty of fresh air and sunshine.... :-)

Hey River, how much are you asking for the land? And, is there water close by? Is there a SDA church at walking distance?
