No Hec. It makes absolutely no sense. I never thought about it being a government piece of paper representing a certain amount versus a ticket or receipt representing a certain amount. Its craziness! ...

"Vege-money!" Love it, Nowisee!

How about another one?
SDAs are expected to pay tithe (never less than 10% of total income before deductions, and completely separate from and in addition to freewill offerings) directly through the church by way of a tithe envelope so that it could be recorded on the church records. I knew an SDA physician, a man I always considered a godly man, kind, loving, honest, sincere, conscientious--who paid a faithful tithe, but he preferred to keep it between himself and God, not leaving the amount of his earned income open to gossip. So he paid his tithe anonymously, and got no receipts. Because of this he was not allowed to hold church office!

Vege-Money. Wouldn't it be nice if someone who is artistically incline designed a bill of Vege-Money! Maybe it could be sold to the academies and camp grounds for "legal exchange".

Just had a visual of lines of blank-eyed people (you know, the way the audience looked at the GC Ted Wilson sermon) standing in line on Friday at the camp meeting & ABC counters, waiting patiently for their vege-bills. On the bills instead of a president, maybe a picture of Daniel surrounded by a circle of parsnips, soybeans and carrots (you all have read the text that proves that Daniel was not a life-long vegetarian like we were taught?). In each corner would be those international "No" symbols stamped over a lobster, a ham, a pepperoni pizza and a cup of Starbucks coffee.

OK, it's late and I'm getting loopy. Good night!!!

Oh! The tithe envelopes. I almost forgot about those. The ones I remember from Spain had quite a bit of space to write in your name and the sums of money directed towards different purposes. That way the church treasurer would know how much money was in there, but didn't have to touch it!

Remember, in many cases the problem was touching money!

Then, the following week you'd get an empty envelope with your name already written on it and, inside, a receipt with the money you gave.

Some things seem so distant now...

The camp meeting visual, Nowisee, is so apropos...we've been watching Soquel camp meeting online this week. Sigh. I'd forgotten things, like the push for conference fund raising, the "rally" feel, the "Jesus is coming soon!" phrases, the earnest lay persons' home missions and evangelism stories...

Blank-eyed people with Sabbath vege-money...exactly.

How about the phrase: "Accept No Substitutes" on the vege-bills?

Nowisee,

What text about Daniel not being a lifelong vegetarian? I don't remember that!

Daniel 10:2: "At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over."

If he were a life-long vegetarian, he wouldn't have quite eating meat (or wine) for three weeks of mourning. I had never seen this before and it was a shock!

I never new they taught that about Daniel, not the least bit shocking though.. I reminded my in-laws at one point, way back, that Jesus ate meat, they said meat in those days was not polluted so it was 'ok'. But why does EGW say meat eaters in the last day won't be translated?? how does abstaining from 'polluted meat' make you more deserving of salvation??? they 'claim' it is not a salvation issue, but cleary if you read EGW's writings it is

The KJV is even more specific. Sometimes "meat" in the Bible means "food" in general, but in this verse, KJV says "flesh," so it can't mean Daniel fasted. This verse was a surprise to me, too.

I too remember noticing that verse when I read through the entire bible. It made me realize that we were only served bits & pieces of the bible. As Paul Harvey said, I wanted to know 'the REST of the story!'
