This is an interesting passage. I would like to see Doug Batchelor squeeze grape juice out of this one.
Ironically the SDA commentary is strangely silent...it has NO comment for this verse. A typical response, as Colleen has been known to say...Move along...nothing to see here...
In fact, all commentaries conclude that it is indeed a fermented wine..perhaps a strong one. There is a "Temperance Bible" that my husband looked up, and this one says that it is a highly refined, filtered wine, meaning the alcohol content is taken out...of course...what is a temperance bible suppposed to say? I would take that with a grain of salt. |

I am presently more convicted than ever that it is VERY important to study Revelation. It is the "Revelation of Jesus Christ" for one thing, and His beauty and character and love etc come through so strong. .To ignore of neglect the study of Revelation is therefore to miss out on information God wanted to give us regarding His son.
Revelation 4 is one of my favorite chapters of the Bible. We will be joinging in the everlasting "Holy, Holy, Holy chorus one day! In fact we already are as we worship Him.
I think if God didnt expect us to be around during the tribulation and end times, He would not have given us a game plan to follow! Why would he let His bride, the church, miss out on the Church's shining moments of triumph! I just dont see the point. IMHO.
I think former Adventist's especially need to read revelation again. With the Holy SPirit to guide. Fascinatingly, for every scary scenario, there is a corresponding PROMISE to the saints. Revelation is only gloom and doom to the perishing! There are promises galore to the saints! Thus I think we will be there, and will experience Acts outpourings in new measure during the age of the end of sin and the Glory of our coming King!

Chris, great post. I agree with you. And Lori, I'm with you in believing we "formers" need to read Revelation again. I know that most of us have a deep and lingering fear of opening that book, but just like the rest of the Bible, it comes alive when we submit to the Lord Jesus to teach us as we read it. It doesn't give us all the details; it DOES tell us Who wins and reassures us that He will bring us with Him.
And it reveals the glory and authority of the Lord Jesus more powerfully than any other book!

I am not advocating for or against the church going through the trib, but between about chapter five and 18 there is no mention of the church in Revelation that I remember.
Why is there no mention of the church doing exploits during such a tribulation period?
I have to ask myself, for what reason would God pour out his wrath on his church?
If anyone could provide satisfactory answers to that question it sure would be welcome as it has been a question that has plagued me for years when I consider revelation.
Seems to me praying church would just be in the way.
You remember how God was going to kill the Israelite and how God told Moses to get out of the way, but Moses advocated for them?
There are Christians advocating day and night for this one and that one.
Wouldn't they be just a slight tad in Gods way of pouring out his wrath on them?
Any help there?

I hope you are not asking ME for anything more than MHO! I DONT KNOW if I am going to be raptured (caught up to be together forever with Jesus) before, during, or after! Pre or post or mid tribulation or whatever it is called! Im just getting back into Revelation. You give me good food for study.
I do beleive if the church is present, (current believers or new converts after a rapture) that God promise much to the saints.
Revelation is the Revelation of Jesus! He wins, and we will agree with the whole plan when it is done! Im praying that we (anyone reading this thread) will have revelation from Holy Spirit as we study Revelation through His eyes.

Like you I ain't taking no position on pretrib, mid trib or whatever.
If'en while you are studying you come up with some answers as to why he would pour out his wrath on his church I would sure like to hear it.
All I know is he promises that he will be with me to the very end, however that ends up. Its a mighty comfort that he hasn't abandoned me for the last 38 years even when I drifted from him.
Sometimes he doesn't feel very close and I ask him to come close to me although I am undeserving, all I know is I need him.
Right now we are in Numbers, but I took a quick look at Rev.
Its says here Revelation 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
So why is the great day of his wrath come to pour out on his church?
Now one may say "Oh, he has the power to protect the church, but it doesn't give much indication that there will be much protection from these horseman when they start galloping back and forth across the earth.
It would make a good novel though.

Just for that top sentence up there I am going to send you a copy of the finished work (well..I don't guess I will ever say 'quit' and let it alone) where I combined that work into a book of short stores and bound it with a soft cover back.
(even though I know you fibbed a little in that sentence when you used the word great (should have been poor) It will be in the mail shortly.
Hope you like what I did with it.
You'll never know the work that goes into learning to write, edit and bind your own book from start to finish so if you find a page that doesn't exactly fit, a comma out of place, at least consider the labor of love in bringing it too you.
