Since I very seldom have what is called; "an original thought", I want to say that I just listened to a sermon by Pastor Steve Berger which he titled; "The Danger of Being Dead Right". What I learned and would like to share from this follows:

I am going to sub-title it as; OUR HEAD, OUR HANDS AND OUR HEART.

The theme comes from Rev. 2:1-7 and I quote from the KJV:

quote:

Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

On the forum here, we major in learning correct doctrine. We are using our heads and we are learning. In doing so, we are helping each other. We are doing….using our hands.

But, this is central and vital, Where is our first love. For those of you who have just escaped from a false theology, you know what it is. Your first love is Jesus Christ. This is what comes from our hearts.

The message that strikes me deeply and I must repent of is to not loose my first love, to return back. To not work so hard with my head and my hands that I forget where my heart must be. As we help and encourage each other with our sound doctrine, let us keep Jesus Christ as our first love and the motive for everything else we are and do.

Wow! Thanks Phil! I absolutely agree - and needed to hear this today. Sometimes it is so easy to be so about being right and why others are wrong that we forget why we're doing this in the first place.

Thanks for the important reminder! May we never lose our first love - JESUS!

Phil, this is a really good reminder. You are so right. Doctrine does not save us nor give us a full life. Only Jesus does that. Doctrine only becomes clear once we submit to the Lord Jesus. He is what/Who we all need! Doctrine follows...
