Bob, the guy probably was lost, he based his life on something with a false foundation and lost.

They are like a Las Vegas gambler, they think the same shovel that dug them in will dig them back out again and they keep thinking that until they come to the realization that they've lost it all and its gone for good.

Personally I think you have good reason to be upset and concerned for others.

God never said we wouldn't have grieving in this world, we can have peace in him, but we still are going to have to look upon loss in others and it ought to grieve us.

Dennis, the SDA are rubbing elbows in high places.
I will not say more as I do not want to get sarcastic. I can get very sarcastic.

Wow!!! I NEVER would have believed that when I was an Adventist. It makes sense though. The devil would maybe want to unite all his false religions into one religion in the end? I'm not sure. If so, since he's the author of all the false religions, he could sure unite them if he wanted.

River, I noticed that you replied to Colleen at 10:16 PM, saying that you had just eaten your supper. Is that when the possum catching is good?

By the way, how was the group luncheon in Portland? (You ought to organize another one. Handmaiden and I would like to come next time.) :-)

Gail,

"This Present Darkness" is by Frank Peretti. I read it a long time ago as well, and thought he did an excellent job of describing spiritual warfare, at least as well as one can with our limited knowledge as humans.

The SDA church is such an odd amalgamation of Islam/Mormonism (the Prophet), Judaism (the Law), some Christianity and New Age/Emergent. What a mess. Just in the last year or so did I see such commonality with Islam.

Does anyone here read the Spectrum Blog? Quite a few there were really pushing gay marriage as a religious freedom issue.

Colleen, I agree that Adventist are truly set up to receive the MOB, probably more than most, because of the ridiculous "Sunday Law" teachings.

My mind races all over the place when I start to think about all the things wrong with Adventism!!!! And to think how proud they are of their beliefs. The Twilight Zone for sure.

Asurprise,

We got together in Vancouver Monday evening at the Olive Garden. Scroll down to the Members Section and read about it. By the way, there is a chance that we'll do it again in April.

Stay Tuned!

I heard quite a bit of 'postiive' conversation about the inclusion of 'non-believers' amongst the list of other faiths, such as Christian, Jew, Islam and now non-believers among yesterdays political analysis. It becomes difficult to have principles and morals and not be perceived as hateful. I struggle with this in terms of adventists as well. Did Paulsen's comments include inclusion for "us" (aka "Sundaykeepers") too?

Not to get too political, but I saw a 'doll' for lack of a better word, life-size, made in the image of Obama. "He" was being paraded down the street on the back of a donkey. I found the symbolism of him as some sort of messiah incredibly alarming.

It's a good thing God is in control or one could become quite fearful of an evangelical's welcome in the future US.

I really believe that all religions which are not rooted in the gospel will end up united. It is not Sabbath which will elicit fury; it is the presence of the Holy Spirit (Who will NEVER leave us, by the way) in Christ-followers that will elicit fury.

2 Corinthians 2:15-16: "For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?"

River, you're so right and I accept your challenge and words of encouragement! I, myself, can never settle with "knowing" God . . . because ultimately, I'm going to be spending an eternity with Him learning and getting to know Him! I can never be content with what I "know" but must daily surrender to God and ask Him in a fresh and beautiful way, "Teach me more about you, Father! Reveal YOUR HEART, YOUR CHARACTER, JUST YOU to me through Your word." And He does!

The ideas and aspects of Adventism burn me so much sometimes that I really have to cast them down at the foot of the cross. I get so angry at the enemy and how deceitful he is and at how such a great task we have ahead of us with not only planting the seeds upon the ears and hearts of those who are "non-believers" but the task at hand with giving those already planted seeds better water, clean soil, good, natural sunlight and making what could grow so much more! I miss my SDA friends immensely, and wish there wasn't this barrier between us that divides.

But God's Word is a two-edged sword, dividing bone and marrow! And it's He who has divided friends with friends, fathers with sons, mothers with daughters and every combination that you can think of. God doesn't need me defending His Word! His Word will defend itself. If I can be the arrows, the thing that penetrates the adventist membrane, then I will! At ALL COSTS!

If believing in Adventism has given me one thing, it is this: the unquenchable desire to know God more! Thank you Ellen G. White for being so blantantly false so that I could know what is so wonderfully true!!

Compromise…Islam wants Jihad, Israel wants peace, religions want brother hood and I just want to go home.

When I was a soldier in the United States Army home was foremost on my mind.

No matter what war torn country a soldier enters, sleepless nights on hard ground he endures or no matter the welcome of the people of a foreign land, home is always foremost on his mind and a speaking of home will always illicit an "I'd rather be there than here."

What do I have too compromise for the sake of peace with every man?

God sat Israel aside to carry his name until the Christ should come to earth.

He chose them not because they were deserving, he said they were a stiff necked people.

One day a few years ago he chose a common drunk and as that is every bit amazing as it seems, he didn’t take the normal path of walking forward in some church to confess Jesus or call on his name.

He instead chose the path of taking a loser, steeped in the throes of alcoholism with no way out, he placed a hook in that drunken sinner’s jaw the very night when he drank till he passed out and he yanked him through the church house doors and slammed his head down on an old wooden alter in the days following.

He placed something within this old drunk that wasn’t there before. He place an undeniable something deep inside me and it was his decision.

No wonder we call it amazing grace, what else would you or could you call it?

He baptized me in the Holy Ghost, whether you believe it or not or whether you believe in it or not, that is what happened and I spoke in another tongue and I still do pray with tongues when the Holy Spirit provokes it. Don’t be telling me that its unintelligible babbling because you most surely will provoke me to words.

How can I compromise what he, through his own sovereign will of grace, has placed with-in me in order to live at peace with Islam, or Judaism or Adventism or some other ism?

It is not with-in my power to compromise that which has been placed with-in me by the will of God. That Holy thing, that Spirit of the living God that breathed life into one twice dead and heading for hell at breakneck speed.

Compromise? God didn’t leave any room for compromise when he sent his Holy Spirit to flood my soul that fateful Friday night, placed a hook into my jaw and turned me in the direction he wanted me to go.

This is not fun and games or an exercise in philosophy. It is the living God who turns this ship to head out to sea, who trims the sail and commands the helm. He is the soul captain of the vessel he has loaded with his precious cargo and there’s no more room left in the holds for cargo of a different sort, he filled her to the gunwales when he took captaincy.

Me compromise sir? You are complete fool! A laughable idiot, a court jester! I cannot compromise nor do I have the least desire.
Oh, indeed you may threaten me with death or derision, but you cannot kill that which has been placed with-in me by Gods own will and hand.

I didn’t ask for it fool, God willed it and I haven’t the least desire or inclination to answer your plea for compromise.

Come along side this ship with the piracy of compromise in mind and you will feel the power of her cannon broadsides. These holds filled with precious cargo are un-approachable and unattainable by foreign dignitaries who sail a fool’s errand.

It is not unusual for a flurry of activity when such a post is posted as that post up top there.

There is something about compromise that causes Christians to pull back the hammer, that excites this thing that has been placed with-in them by God himself, that causes them to finger the sword with nervous anticipation for the war that is sure to come, that releases the adrenalin, that causes him or her to plant their feet into the tera firma of the Holy Spirit and prepare to draw the bow of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and raise the war worn banner high and walk forward even to die if need be.

Do not go out to battle with these O’ king of compromise for you shall surely meet a wall of bodies pressed firmly shoulder to shoulder with swords drawn and shields up, an impenetrable wall of something that has been placed with-in them by the sovereign will of almighty God for he is the captain of their salvation, the glory and the lifter of their head.

I'm just catching this thread, and now trying to catch my breath. I don't know why I find it so hard to believe this is becoming a pervasive position in Adventism, but I do. The irony of them "joining" hands with the enemy all the while keeping an eye out for some other threat that will never happen. So sad.

I listened closely to Rick Warren's prayer at the inauguration, hearing many people were upset Obama had chosen him to pray, because he would pray in the name of Jesus. The preliminary phrase "In the name of the one who changed MY life" - implying to me, that maybe He's not for everyone. That epitomized the new spiritual order of things for me.

The commentators noted that Warren did not receive the warm welcome and enthusiasm from the crowd as most of the other speakers. So as Christians, we compromise our Jesus as the only way in order to be "accepted" and in the end, are left with nothing, because we still have enough Jesus that they world still doesn't want to have anything to do with us. Seems so pointless.

Thanks so much for keeping us posted Colleen. I would never be able to keep up with what's going on in the denomination. I will save this info for my family. I'm sure some of them will not be agreeing with this direction.

8thday, I also listed to Rick's prayer because many were concerned he would mention Jesus and therefore, isolate the prayer to the "Christian" God rather than just say amen and leave it a more 'generic', "inclusive" god. I took the statement you quoted above as a testimony, that Jesus was not merely a name to be prayed to, but the one who changed his life.... I was thrilled to hear him recognize Jesus as the one who changed his life. I guess it's perspective.

I heard a lot of criticism after the prayer that he did mention Jesus as it would exclude Jews, Muslims and 'non-believers' of all sorts.

Melissa, I hope that's how he meant it, and maybe in a different setting, I would have taken that way too. All things considered, I felt it was a concession that you may find some other way to change your life, if Jesus isn't your thing. That seems to be the perspective of the Obama camp, (Obama says was taught by his mother to understand religion as a cultural fact) I do soooo hope you are right! =) Either way, Jesus just isn't too popular overall, and the antagonism toward Him in our culture seems to be growing.
