...and Catholicism, Mormonism, J.W. etc.

I was reading an article about why Catholicism isn't Christian; and I noticed that the same arguments could apply to Adventism. Here's a couple of them:

1. The Catholics view of the Bible. They view the Bible as having the same authority as the church and traditions.
Adventists view Ellen White as having the same authority as the Bible. Yes, I know she's supposed to be "the lesser light pointing to the greater light," but ask almost any Adventist and they'll tell you that she got her inspiration from the same source as the writers of the Bible did; therefore being just as inspired.
2. The article said that the most critical difference between Catholics and Christians is their view of salvation; that Catholics view salvation almost entirely as a process and that they see themselves as "being saved."
Adventists believe the same way. On the other hand, Christians view salvation both as a completed status and a process. The Bible shows that salvation is a gift that is received the moment a person accepts Jesus as their Savior. (see Romans 5:1,9; Hebrews 10:14; Ephesians 1:13,14; Ephesians 2:8,9)

When I was an Adventist, I thought a "relationship" with God was simply being good, asking forgiveness and trying to listen for His voice.
As a Christian, a "relationship" with God involves an actual fellowship with Him. I can now actually sense His Presence with me from time to time, and He teaches me things, whereas before, I never sensed His Presence nor learned anything from Him. It's sweet now to think of Him, whereas before, I was only "doing religion" to keep from being lost.

I totally relate, Asurprise. And yes, Adventism's salvation is a process, not an accomplished fact. The process is ours, not God's.

On point 1, the Adventists actually put Ellen White above Scripture. They teach that she is the infallible interpreter of the Bible, and is thus above the Bible.

FB#18 shows that Adventists use the Bible because Ellen White said to:

quote:

One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy. This gift is an identifying mark of the remnant church and was manifested in the ministry of Ellen. G. White . As the Lord's messenger, her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction. They also make clear that the Bible is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested.

Note the bolded portion: Adventists use the Bible because Ellen White says to.

Skillit old bean, that is just plumb sad!

Old Ellen White was just plumb mean
She said you got to send the conference all your green

So I sent the conference all my bread
But they said son, your still in the red!

I wrote back and said, that's all I got
They said son work an extra job
and put - that -in- the pot!

Well I worked and I worked till my fingers were rough
They said son that just ain't enough!

They said son your gonna go to hell as sure as your born
If you don't send money plus all your corn!

We notice you didn't keep the sabbath and thats too bad
Not enough money and you've been had!

Whats this I hear your preachin' grace?
We gonna get right up in your face!

You better straighten up or we'll take your house!
Preach Adventism, and don't be a louse!

Now here is what we're gonna do
Take your wife and your kids and your living too!

We'll give you a week to leave this state!
We don't care if your sick and have a belly ache

We'll band you from our remnant group
We'll take your house, and even the porch stoop!

So don’t mess us cause we got Ellen
Your talk of grace we’ll be a quellin’

So get outta here, we don’t need you!
A talkin’ grace, teachin’ our kids too!

So I left cause they kicked me out
And I looked for help around and about!

I said Lord what will I do?
And he said son don’t worry, I’ll see...you...through.

Oh yeah! Git it on down!Rap it out!
