Whoa, I just happened to pick up the June 2009 Adventist World, and noticed the cover story: "A Unique prophetic movement" Direct quote in this article, from James R. Nix Director of the White Estate at the Seventh-day Adventist Church's World Headquarters. "Those three defining characteristics describe Adventists as the ONLY PEOPLE who find their: 1. prophetic roots, or history, predicted in Revelation 10 2. Prophetic identity defined in Revelation 12 3. Prophetic message and mission given in Revelation 14. WOW, that is in print, all in one place. Talk about a sense of terminal uniqueness!. Are they really publically, in this century making these claims public and sanctioned by the church? Am I missing something. Are they saying THEY are THE fulfillment of the prophecies of Revelation 10,12 and 14?? Halleleujah! They made these claims plain and public! These claims are atrocious! Did I really claim these things, and believe them? Another quote "Revelation 10:10 reads: "then I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eated in, my stomach become bitter. There coubd be no better summary of what happened next in Adventist Church history than those prophetic words." ----OKAY so he claims that Adventist's falsely predicting the 2nd coming of christ in 1844 (against the words of Christ that say no man, not even the angels, know the day of Christ's return) is a fulfillment of the prophecy of Revelation 10:10! AHHHHHHH And another clincher : the article states that ...in december of 1844, another prophetic messenger was comissioned!...and goes on to describe Ellen Harmon, later Ellen White as the gift of prophecy being restored to God's remnant people... One more Direct quote :" Yes, at the end of time there will be a faithful, commandment-keeping group of individuals here on earth who are distinguished from all other religious bodies in three unique ways. Only Seventh-day Adventists fit this description exactly." Wow, Im making copies. Deserves a medal for imagination... ...The Great Disappointment just morphed into something to be proud of! This current campaign of re-writing and spinning SDA history so as to more fully hook a gullible laity turns my stomach (more so because I find it to be very effective).  The really sad thing is that the average SDA Joe is so convinced of the Sabbath, so uninformed regarding his full and permanent position in the family of God and so fearful of endtime events that he/she can't imagine leaving the "Ark of Safety". Yes Colleen! Thats why I was excited as well. Its one thing to SAY that is what I was taught. Its another to see it clearly in print. Animal, thanks for the quotes. There were many more in the article mentioned. Ellen White is promoted as a prophet next in line following the likes of Noah and John the Baptist! Amazing! It is unthinkable! I cant wait to pass this along to some friends that have exclaimed, "the SDA church claims to have a prophet?? How come I never heard of that before??" Well it is clear here for sure! Jesus, I pray for a great awakening in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. For this article to just stir up those who truly seek You, and are willing to see truth even when it hurst. For these claims to be seen for what they are. | ||

Lori, the information on the link you provided was exactly what I was taught growing up. To me, it's never been a secret. I guess out on the "liberal" west coast, it has been forgotten or under-emphasized. But, I can assure you that all of this is still being currently taught at SDA institutions and in the seminaries. It is also presented at most evangelistic meetings--at least the ones I've attended. | ||

I don't know how many times I've heard "I don't really believe in all that EGW stuff, but I'll NEVER give up the Sabbath." I find that to be such a scary statement... why can't they just say that they would never give up on Jesus? Their whole life is centered around the Sabbath... IDOL! ~vivian | ||

What gets me, Vivian, is that they have been so systematic about destroying other options. As we left our friends place, (that's the ones who showed me the Living Water  ) I said to my husband, "I can imagine leaving SDA. (We'd effectively done that.) But I CAN'T imagine believing something else!" That was before God revealed His ownership of my life... ...Sadly, My Husband Still Can't Imagine It. Pegg | ||

Pegg, That to me is the very saddest thing about Seventh-day Adventism. I still get e-mails from the review and there is virtually always something slamming another denomination. You are so right, they systematically destroy every option for someone who might consider leaving. It's a sign of a cult. Leave our group and go to hell. You apparently were never really one of us anyway thinking. Its like they want you to be Adventist or nothing (probably because the Sunday keepers are going to get them in the end times - and we know who they are.) That is so CRAZY that I don't know where to start. They may not be teaching the Revelation 10 little book stuff in southern CA, but they sure are in Michigan. I wasn't in the church very long (6 years) - but sure got indoctrinated fast! That is exactly the stuff being taught in prophecy seminars around here! I'm thrilled that they are finally admitting it in print. I'm passing this one along to some pastors. Joyfulheart | ||

And don't forget that they also teach that the angel in Revelation 10 is Jesus!! It says that John saw "another of the same kind of strong angel" in the Greek--ummm, not Jesus, sorry...!
