I heard an Adventist today who was talking about some of the things we go through (misfortune and trial) and he said, “From what I read it is intended to build character.”

I’ll bet you formers can guess where he had been reading, if you can’t I have a bridge to sell you and it expands the river. I’ll give you a good deal so you can get across.

But is this what the Bible says? They declare the Bible is the word of God on the one hand, and deny the word of God on the other. As the old Indian said, “He speak with forked tongue.”

To be deceived is thinking your saved when your not. One or two times in my life I have made a turn onto a street and I thought I was going the right way, when it turned out I was on a one way street and I was shocked to see headlights come toward me in both lanes and just about that time I see a sign with an arrow saying “One way” and the arrow pointed in the other direction. I was deceived. Bad deceived and heading for disaster.

Now you might say. “Well brother, what’s the big deal that the guy has that one little thing wrong? After all our trials do build character.”

Well, it is a big deal and there are signs warning us if we have been deceived and if we are deceived it can bring great disaster on us.

Mark 16:19 says: So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Is he going to confirm his word or our words? Is the Lord, after dying on the cross and being received up into heaven going to work with the deceived and confirm the words of the deceived? Is he going to say, “Well, he was in earnest, therefore I will not confirm my word, but his words?”

Come on Mr. Adventist, no matter how much you think of the words of Ellen G. White she is not above God. We best get into the Bible and see what it says, because that is what he will confirm. Matt. 12:37-12:35, John 6:3 and John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

No matter how much you think if E.G.W or anybody else, if they make claims they better be right. Has God confirmed EGW’s words with signs following?
Has the monstrosity of a system you set up had signs following? It is a big deal when we go getting it all wrong because God will not confirm us.

The book called “The clear word” which you claim is not a Bible, but you read out of it as if it is a Bible and God’s word and that is a big deal, it is a presumptive book, it presumes upon God word like no other book I have ever seen. Its not clear at all, it is presumptive, confusion and delusion.

Many of the churches and theologians claim that Mark 14:16 thru 20 was added to the Bible and they claim that because of what Jesus said about the casting out of Demons and speaking with new tongues and more specially the tongues, you see, they know they don’t have the signs following.
You want to take out Mark 16, fine, just don’t impose it on me.

Recently I had a report of an evangelical Pastor who preached a scathing sermon against speaking in tongues, but the Bible plainly, most plainly says Corinthians I 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

Or do we just take that out too? Friend, Jesus never spoke through Paul just to hear his head rattle and if he says don’t forbid, you best not be forbidding if you want to be confirmed by God. If all we want to be confirmed by is man, hey, that ain’t no problem, just agree with everything they say, they’ll confirm you, just tell them how great they are and you can do no wrong.

So which is it? Do we want to be confirmed by God, or our stick churches or our character? Is God a character examiner? Or a word confirmer.

We best make up our mind as to what street we are going to run on and get with the traffic flow.
You want to follow E.G.W. or old brother Totebucket? Fine, but be advised of what God says about his word, there is more riding on it than a plate of turnip greens!

Misfortune and trial don't "build character," they build FAITH!

Sorry River, going to have to sell it to someone else. I know an SDA church down the way where you might find some buyers. :-)

I wish SDAs knew how much more powerful faith is than trying to "build character," which really means trying to make a habit of doing all the right stuff.

This all reminds me of when my Uncle were driving to Arkansas and we stopped at Little America.

My uncle wanted to take something to the little kids so he paid a big price for the war bonnets (Indian head dresses) and it said on the tag, Genuine Indian Warbonnet.

When we got back in the car I was reading on the tag and I remarked to my Uncle, "Looks like you got took Pap, it says here 'Made in China'.

I got a kick out of that, the little kids probably went around whooping thinking they had a genuine Indian Warbonnet.

Adventist are like that, they go around whooping EGW and thinking they got the real McCoy!

I find that rather amazing!

I agree River and Bskillet. The whole "build character" idea again points to human will and accomplishment rather than the ability of the Holy Spirit.

Animal, you are that CHARACTER because that is the way God make you. You had nothing to do with it!!!

River and Bskillet, the "build character" concept is very human. I remember as an SDA thinking "if I try really hard I can be perfect and have a perfect character, only to blow it a few seconds later". What a disappoinment I was!!!

Actually Diana....rootbeer and popcorn contribute greatly to the formation of my character. I actually had a Vision about that. And NO....My head wasnt hit by a rock like Ellen was. It was hit by a bottle of rootbeer !!! I have never been the same since.

Maybe I need to start my own church??...Hmmm....Any false prophet needing a job??...LOL LOL LOL LOL

Romans 5:3-5 (New International Version)
but we[a] also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

The more I study about the Sovereignty of God the more I understand it is ALL about Him and not about us. Our Character is not the end result what it boils down to is Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith it is He who sustains us through trials, through the learning how to stick through the rough patches, through the development of our character, teaches us to rest in the Hope and grow in the love and protection of our Savior

I point the finger at myself when I say this---River your friend may need to think before he speaks--a foot in the mouth is not a tasty treat
