I was given an article from the 1883 Review and Herald. The article was in 6 parts, written by J.N. Andrews. The article title is, The Great Week of Time. Andrews theorizes "that at the end of 6,000 years from creation, the day of Judgement will commence, and that that day will last for the period of 1,000 years." He seems to be date setting for the end of the earth though he does not directly say that. The article further theorizes the millinium of 1000 years as the 7th, 1000 year period when judgment will take place. Any one familiar with this? Comments? | ||

I've heard this before. A modern day sda wrote a book on it too - maybe about 10 or so years ago but can't remember who it was, or the name of the book - "Even at the Door" rings a bell. Since leaving I have heard other prophecy people in other places try to use this theory as well. Pure speculation in my opinion.. | ||

I've heard of it before too, but not in SDA circles. It is not just confined to SDA. I don't think it is correct either. | ||

Was there something similar to this in the epistle of Barnabas? I thought it said something about the 8,000th year being the millenial reign... not sure though. I think there was a comparison to the "8th" day that Jesus was resurrected on to the "8,000" year.... but don't quote me! vivian | ||

You're quite right, Vivian. I had a feeling this was a rather old idea. Barnabas chapter 15 has: "Attend, my children, to the meaning of this expression, “He finished in six days.” This implies that the Lord will finish all things in six thousand years, for a day is with Him a thousand years. And He Himself testifies, saying, “Behold, to-day will be as a thousand years.” Therefore, my children, in six days, that is, in six thousand years, all things will be finished. “And He rested on the seventh day.” This means: when His Son, coming [again], shall destroy the time of the wicked man, and judge the ungodly, and change the-sun, and the moon, and the stars, then shall He truly rest on the seventh day." In this chapter, he is arguing against Sabbath keeping, and in favour of keeping the 8th day, Sunday. And this letter was written in the early 2nd century. I guess he knew more about the practices of his day than a woman living in 18th century America, but that is another subject. |
