Today Gary preached on Revelation 5, Jesus as the Lion of Judah and also the Lamb of God. He said some people have a jesus who is only a lion, who will judge, who is powerful, who is on the throne with the Father receiving worship with Him. Others have a jesus who is only a lamb: meek, incarnate, slain, tender, and gentle. The true Jesus, however, is both the Lion and the Lamb. I realized that Adventists have only the "lamb" side of Jesus. They don't have the roaring and victorious judge, Lord, and sovereign Ruler. They only have a weak, "exalted" Jesus who intrinsically had more in common with Lucifer than with God until the Father exalted him. It was an amazing, worshipful declaration of Jesus as the only way to the Father, the true victorious Lion who is also the Lamb who takes away our sin. When I heard the sermon, I pictured the "Lamb that was slain" as being just that. Slain. Cut up and sacrifced but then resurrected and then sewn back together, Frankenstein style. (probably not theologically correct but hey, it was from a vision and the pastor did say that he thought Jesus will bear the scars for eternity.) And then when the Lamb came out and took the scroll, he took it in his mouth (as sheep do not have hands). I don't know if I actually added anything relevant to this discussion but those were the thoughts going through my head while listening to the sermon. Surfy | ||

Colleen I cannot download it. :-( I see there is a MP3 link.. but when I click on it I get a message "Internet explorer cannot download No such interface supported" I tried it the same way I do from other sites and FAF and Mark Martins site.. I click "save as" and it usually downloads to my Windows Media Player site. but not this time... | ||

I remember being about 21 or so before hearing about "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" from a "Sunday Christian" friend. It was the strangest concept to me. All the "bible" prophesy I was taught/familiar with never brought the victorious and powerful Lion up as a topic. As I sit here writing this I can feel the same feelings that I had on that day when I heard that Jesus is both the Lion and the Lamb. I can't help but think that the Great Controversy construct makes little sense when all mighty Jesus (the Lion) has to fight Lucifer/Satan (the serpent). Right from Genesis we see that Satan's head is crushed---sounds to me like Satan only has limited power for a limited time | ||

Wow, I just listened to the link and I have to share a part of it that really grabbed me. Pastor Gary talked about a song that he sang as a youngster. The chorus really got my attention and I had to look this song up. As powerful as angels are and though they have lived in the presence of God for untold ages we who are saved have something they don't, the power of redemption. Holy, Holy Is What the Angels Sing Verse 1 There is singing up in heaven Such as we have never known. Where the angels sing the praises Of the Lamb upon the throne. Their sweet harps are always tuneful And their voices always clear. Oh that we might be more like them While we serve the Master here. I like the words to that song but dont remember ever hearing it so I wanted to hear the melody that those words go to and I found there are more lyrics. Here is the whole thing. I always thought their was scripture that said the lion will lay with the lamb, but couldn't find it in the concordance. Is this just something catchy that comes off many a pulpit, or am I just not finding it in the concordance. Chris | ||

Chris, That exact phrase is not found in the Bible, but some similar verses are Isaiah 11:6 and Isaiah 65:25. Jeremy |
