This very much reminds me of my own thoughts this morning. I was reading a book that I keep in the bathroom called His Princess - Prayers to My King, by Sheri Rose Shepherd. Sometimes it's a bit sappy (don't mean any disrespect, it just is) and I can't read too much at a time, but I like to pick it up and see what prayer I open when the mood strikes me.

Well, this morning when I opened the book I noticed something that had never dawned on me before. On the page facing each prayer is a lovely picture of flowers and jewels and a verse of Scripture. I had seen this before. What I had not noticed was that the prayer was built around the thought of the verse.

So this morning I read:
O Lord, you are our Father: we are the clay, and you our Potter, and we all are the work of your hand. - Isiah 64:8

Lord, it is You who formed my body, crafted my mind, and created my soul. You made me in Your image, and You call me Your own. Therefore I ask You to mold my character so that it displays to the world what You can do with a life surrendered to You. I give You the Shattered pieces of my life caused by my sin and my mistakes, and I ask You to put it back together with Your Word, in Your way, and by Your loving Spirit. You are the Master Potter, and I am the clay resting on Your potter's wheel. Please make me a masterpiece -- not for my glory, but for Yours.
In Jesus' name, amen.

Well, this morning I thought, what a great idea to take a verse of Scripture and make it into my own prayer.

This morning I also thought how differently I would have read the same prayer only a few years ago.

Back then I would have thought it was a prayer for help to accomplish what I must do rather than a plea for what He would do for and in me.

What A Wonderful Contrast!!!
“We cannot receive the Holy Spirit until we break every yoke that binds us to our objectionable traits of character.” (Review & Herald, Apr. 25,1899 par 9)

"In order to let Jesus into our hearts, we must stop sinning." (Ellen White, Signs of the Times, March 3, 1888).—can not verify quote

As we behold Christ, pierced for our sins, we shall see that we cannot break the law of God and remain in His favor; we shall feel that as sinners we must lay hold of the merits of Christ and cease to sin. (1SM 312.1)

The love of God now reaches out to embrace the lowest, vilest sinner that will come to Christ with contrition. It reaches out to transform the sinner into an obedient, faithful child of God; but not a soul can be saved if he continues in sin. (1SM 313.1)

I re-read the scriptures above, and was energized and challenged, then I read the Ellen quotes above, and it felt like someone sat on my chest. The pressure was so intense. The joy pushed out. But just for a second. A contrast indeed!

My favorite, of the above:

Lori, I started reading the EGW quotes and I could not read past the second one. I cannot read her. Then I read yours in depth as I had skimmed them at first. Pegg, I like that one also.
Thanks ladies for putting them on here. I am so glad we have an awesome God who keeps His promises.
I got 5 hours of sleep Friday night and drove to Lancaster that afternoon and felt great. I slept 6 hours Saturday evening and was up and about all day Sunday in Lancaster and was full of energy. I started getting sleepy in the Sunday evening meeting. I got a good 8 hours sleep last night and drove home today on a real high. So, Yes. God gives us strength and power and protection (my car needs an oil and filter change and I drove home with the maintanence light on but no smoke coming out of the hood or the tail pipe). God is soooooo Good and so very, very Awesome.
