Kirsten Wolcott worked for me as a young teenager.
I wish you'd lift this family up. They are going to need it.

And Please Pray For The Christian Community In Our Town As We Offer Our Support.

Praying, too. I went as a student missionary to Micronesia and am familiar with Yap and the other islands. I am lifting up Kristine's family and friends in prayer.

Thank you guys.

Keri - I am not familiar. Is it a dangerous place? Are Americans disliked? Christians? SDA? Does one generally have to take extra precautions?

Peg,
Generally, it is not a dangerous place. Yap, was one of the islands that was more "primitive" when I was there in the 80's. Yap is known for its "stone" money. If I remember correctly, the people were more "primitive", and I had heard of violence from other islands in Micronesia - it could have included Yap as well.

My sense is this is not an orchestrated pre-meditated type of violence for a group of people, but more of an incredibly horrible incident where your young friend was harmed.

I know that while I was in college (SDA college) there was a young woman that was raped while jogging one morning - and beat up pretty badly. She was quite courageous to return to campus - still with a bruised and eyes swollen shut a week after the incident.

Very unnerving ... I am continuing to pray for you, the family and her friends. I'm sure the other missionaries are incredibly shaken.

Again, I didn't perceive any anti-American sentiments there, nor anti-Christian or anti-SDA. We were cautioned - in the sense that women are not considered equal in Micronesia and therefore, more on the lines of property. When I was a missionary - the female missionaries were cautioned not to go out alone. Sexual immorality was quite rampant in the culture of Micronesia. And so there was concern for us as women.

Continuing to pray,
Keri

Pegg, For her family I offer my prayers and for you because you cared for her too. If possible please let her family know that there are Christians who are lifting the family up in prayer

Thanks, I will do that Enoch. That's a reason I posted this here on the front board. I know all sorts of folks come here. I want them to be able to pray for this family and for the Christian Community in our town as we all deal with this tragedy. I also want everyone to know that while we may hold differences, this does not hinder our Christian duty of offering true compassion and lifting up another to God in prayer.
