“Church membership is a reflection of what we believe and our relationship with Jesus Christ.”
This is a statement made by a former Adventist.

I know what some mumble when I start yelling about “Going down and petting the snake.”

“Oh River, your just too rough.” “You’re just a stick in the mud.”

Yet not a woman of you would think of putting on a mini skirt, going down to the street corner and hanging out with the hookers.
Not a man of you would think of going down to the poker joint, drink whisky and hang out with the gamblers while they curse Gods name as they throw the dice.

I looked in the mirror, and what did I see? Myself, staring back at me.
And when I look close enough I can see.
Just what I used to be.

For me, I can’t go into a bar room. I can go to a restaurant where liquor is served, but I cannot go to a drinking establishment built for that purpose.

Yet the former goes down to the Adventist church. You can bet they keep quiet about their new found faith in Jesus! Just mix in, and don’t raise a stink, but I wonder how it smells to God. Maybe something like a pole cat?

I wonder if the Angels looking into this, and say to another Angel, “Well, our Lord delivered them out, and look, they’re right back down there, go figure!”

I met my old enemy, and shook hands with him you see.
We talked about old times and how it used to be.
But come to find out, as we talked on till three.
My old enemy, to my surprise…was me.

There are those that exclaim, “Oh they’re saved, just deceived.”
What? The Holy Spirit is a deceiver? Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Is Adventism being led by the Spirit? Boy! That’s a new one on me, if it is!

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Well… when you go down to the Adventist church, you ain’t suffering with him, agreed, you are suffering, but suffering because of our own foolishness will never amount to suffering with Christ. Ever!

Like Sampson, we listen to the crooning of the unfaithful woman, until we loose our strength then wonder why we are so weak.

As I write this the Holy Spirit is speaking to me about some things in my own life, is he speaking to you also, or is it just me?

River,
Thank-you and oh how true. I have talked to many christians and they seem to think that sdas are christians but the only difference is they worship on another day. Boy! is that a door opener for me. Also you would be suprised how many pastors do not have a clue and they do not seem to want to know. It seems in their eyes you are bashing sda's.
When you have one foot still in the old way and one foot in the new you are on a very slippery slope. You will either go the old way (which you had been comfortable in) or the new, the choice is yours but you can not sit on the fence and have it both ways.
I think Paul said it very well and forcibly in the book of Galatians.
Again thank-you River for being so insightful.
Gail
