I just read a statement that says that Ellen White suggested swapping husbands.That was comparing her to Joseph Smith who advocated having more than one wife. Any quote on that? Jeremy, etc.? Hec | ||

Never heard of that one, Hec...but there is a definite 'Mormon Connection' with early Adventism and the Whites. I think there is alot more to research in that area. | ||

I do not know whether or not this is fully documented, but I have heard that James White had a "spiritual wife", as did Joseph Smith, and that White's "spiritual wife" was the sister of one of Smith's. The sisters' last name was Dagget. Now, the Dagget sisters moved to the California high desert after they became widows, and the existing town of Dagget bears their name. Apparently there is written record that when Ellen came to Loma Linda on one of those early trips which founded the university, she took a side trip to Dagget. Apparently there is no record of why she took the trip, only that she did. It's not hard to deduce that she probably would not have gone to Dagget, a small, out-of-thee-way town, unless she knew someone there. Colleen | ||

I've never heard of that one either; but Ellen White was against one having a relationship with one's own husband. I doubt she would ever have recommended that. It's interesting how Joseph Smith's Mormon religion said you should have many wives and lots of kids (so the "spirit babies" [angels] could have bodies). Then he was killed in the Spring? of 1844. Ellen White followed him with her religion that said just the opposite. |
