I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. Here in So California we're having a sparkling, clear day--but for us, it's a cool day. It's only 57 degrees out at midday, and we feel like we're having winter!

I've got a question: instead of a New Year's resolution, what spiritual blessing would you like to receive from the Lord Jesus in this new year?

My prayer is that I'll trust Him more at deeper levels, that I'll trust Him with my moments of fear or resentment or overwhelm and rest in Him, letting Him take charge of the "crisis" and trust that He will be faithful to protect and care for me.

He is an amazing God--it's hard to believe He's who He actually is! I did not know Him as an Adventist...the god I knew then was not sovereign, almighty, and in control. That god existed to protect my free will. The real God of the Bible is far more powerful and good and compassionate. I am overwhelmed as I learn the depth and height of His sovereign, compassionate, just goodness.

He is worthy of all we have. We can trust Him.

My New Year's blessing from God would be to more clearly be able to distinguish and communicate the wisdom of God from that of the false wisdom of the world.

As I look back at this past year ... and the magnitude of the changes that have taken place in my life ...

The spiritual blessing I would like to receive from the Lord Jesus is peace and joy.

I had this in my email this morning - and this is my wish for the New Year, to walk in this more and more. This exemplifies to me the high calling of our New Covenant relationship, that is far from lawless, but total abandon in love for Jesus.

OTHERS MAY: You CANNOT
-by G.D. Watson.

If God has called you to be really like Jesus He will draw you into
a life of crucifixion and humility, and put upon you such demands
of obedience, that you will not be able to follow other people, or
measure yourself by other Christians, and in many ways He will
seem to let other people do things which He will not let you do.

Other Christians and ministers who seem very religious and useful,
may push themselves, pull wires, and work schemes to carry out
their plans, but you cannot do it, and if you attempt it, you will
meet with such failure and rebuke from the Lord as to make you
sorely penitent.

Others may boast of themselves, of their work, of their successes,
of their writings, but the Holy Spirit will not allow you to do any
such thing, and if you begin it, He will lead you into some deep
mortification that will make you despise yourself and all your
good works.

Others may be allowed to succeed in making money, or may have
a legacy left to them, but it is likely God will keep you poor,
because He wants you to have something far better than gold,
namely, a helpless dependence upon Him, that He may have the
privilege of supplying your needs day by day out of an unseen treasury.

The Lord may let others be honored and put forward, and keep you
hidden in obscurity, because He wants to produce some choice
fragrant fruit for His coming glory, which can only be produced in
the shade. He may let others be great, but keep you small. He
may let others do a work for Him and get the credit for it, but He
will make you work and toil on without knowing how much you are
doing; and then to make your work still more precious He may let
others get credit for the work which you have done, and thus make
YOUR REWARD TEN TIMES GREATER when JESUS COMES.

The Holy Spirit will put a strict watch over you, with a jealous love,
and will rebuke you for little words and feelings or for wasting your
time, which other Christians never feel distressed over. So make
up your mind that God is an Infinitely Sovereign Being, and has a
right to do as He pleases with His own. He may not explain to you
a thousand things which puzzle your reason in His dealings with
you, but if you absolutely sell yourself to be His love slave, He will
wrap you up in Jealous Love, and bestow upon you many blessings
which come only to those who are in the inner circle.

Settle it forever, then that you are to DEAL DIRECTLY WITH the
HOLY SPIRIT, and that He is to have the privilege of tying your
tongue, or chaining your hand, or closing your eyes, in ways that
He does not seem to use with others. Now, when you are so
possessed with the living God that you are, in your secret heart,
pleased and delighted over this PECULIAR, PERSONAL, PRIVATE,
JEALOUS GUARDIANSHIP and MANAGEMENT OF the HOLY
SPIRIT OVER YOUR LIFE, then you will have found the vestibule
of Heaven.

Sondra,
That is so true, it says what I have been trying to say for a long time to those who are having trials, heartaches and fears. It couldn't have been better said. I pray you get what you ask for, and I hope you never resent me for praying for it when the Lord cups his hand over you to the point you want be able to wriggle out of it.

I know God answers prayer. and he will answer mine on your behalf. Get ready!

I have quite a few resolutions and what they all boil down to is that I will be closer to God, know Him better, reflect Him more clearly and share Him better and to more and more people. Heaven is my home and I'm homesick and waiting for the family reunion to end all family reunions and I want to see as many people their as possible praising God which I believe is the heart of God

Sondra, I love that "tract" you shared above. I remember our women's ministry leader Elizabeth Inrig passing that out to us one day, and I realized how true it is. God individually convicts us of the issues in our lives, and we must be obedient to Him and to His word as He shows us how to submit to it personally. Our specifics may look very different from each other's "specifics".

Our obedience is personal. Our call is to surrender to Him in every detail.

Thank you.
Colleen
