In 1993 I was living in Wichita Falls, TX. I wanted to move back to Virginia. My son was in college, in VA, and I wanted to be near enough to him so he could come home on vacations/holidays instead of scurrying around trying to find a place to stay with friends.
I applied for many jobs in VA. Then I followed up by making phone calls for appointments for interviews. This was in late January. I called a hospital in Warrenton, VA and spoke to the rehab manager. We set an appointment for March of that year. As soon as I hung up I heard a voice tell me, "That job is yours". WOW!!! I did not know what to believe. So I spoke out loud and said, "God, I do not know if that is me talking to me or you talking to me. So, I will believe it when I see it." From that time until I went for the interview that is what I told God, constantly. When I went for that interview the manager hired me on the spot. I went dancing, in my head, out of there. Now how is this an AHAA moment.
This morning I was reading my Bible about Peter and Cornelius when God brought to mind this job. God spoke to me the first time and I was not sure if it was Him or me talking to myself. When I was hired on the spot I knew it was God talking to me.
Now fast forward to May 2004 when God spoke to me and told me to "go to that BIG church on Russel Rd off 95". I trusted that voice implicitely and went to that big church. I did not question Him or doubt Him. I KNEW it was God talking to me.
I often wondered why God spoke to me about that job. Now I know it was not because I needed to know that job was mine. I needed to trust Him first, so when He told me what church I needed to attend He knew I would trust Him. So He spoke to me about the job first so I could doubt and question and then find out it was my precious Saviour, Jesus Christ, who had spoken to me.
What an AHA moment. My awesome God is truly indescribable.

Diana, thank you for sharing this experience. You are so right--the entire process was so you would learn to trust Him. I'm so amazed that God deals with each of us differently, but He deals very clearly with us so we will know and trust Him.

He knows what we need in order to respond to Him. He tailor-makes His interactions with us!

When he spoke to me the first time, it scared the living daylights out of me, I wasn't used to that. In fact I wasn't even sure he existed. He did! And he still does!

There is a saying I saw the other day.. "If you talk to God, you're spiritual. If God talks to you, you are psychotic." Sadly.. some churches think this way.

I don't hear Him audibly, but He definitely speaks!
Thanks for sharing that Diana.

p.s. Please pray for a man named Laurent in Canada to hear Him. He doesn't think there is a God at the moment. I really really really want his eyes to be opened. I don't know why I have such a heavy burden for him.

Sondra,

I know what you mean. God does speak. But, as you say, it isn’t like a voice that I hear with my ears.

Years ago, I had a design problem at work where I had two tanks I was building that needed to be at a certain height just below the ceiling and the tank covers had to open every few hours so they could be filled. They had to be sanitary, fool proof and not require a lot of maintenance. Being at a total loss on how to solve the problem, I went home, prayed and went to bed. During the night I dreamed the solution including all the dimensions of the interrelated moving parts.

When the boss complimented me on how well things worked out I explained to him that God gave me the answer in a dream. His reaction pretty much revealed that he thought I was becoming psychotic.
