Howdy Everyone, I am trying to put a few texts together to show my family about EGW. I know there are a couple somewhere in Jeremiah/Ezekiel about a prophet that copies from his neighbour isn't from God as we all know EGW didn't mind the odd copying here and there. Your help would be greatly appreciated, I have read a few in the past but do you think I can find them now I need them. My own fault for not writing them down as I go. | ||

Hi Scarred4life~ This verse changed my life. I had decided that I was going to educate myself about egw through adventist sources. I didn't want my family to accuse me of going to all those "anti-egw" sites... blah, blah, blah. So I found a book on the history of adventism at my local library. It was written by an adventist with all those illustrations that we grew up with. I got to the chapter where they were going to introduce egw. The author was quoting a verse here and there about descriptions of false prophets from Jer. 23. He was quoting them randomly. I decided to go back and read the whole chapter and this is what I found: Jer 23:30 "Therefore behold, I am against the prophets," declares the LORD, "who steal My words from each other. (NASB) I was shocked! This verse was the turning point for me. I'll be praying for you as you witness to your family... that the eyes of their hearts may be opened and softened. vivian | ||

Hi Judy~ I'll have to go back to the library and get that information to you. It's been 3 years (yippee!). It is an older book, but it was the only one that the library had. Hec~ Bible prophets may have quoted each other (quoting God's word), Ellen quoted other books that are not considered part of God's word and claimed that they were inspired words from God (not from a writer she was copying). I've just finished up studying Matthew, and from what I remember, he would say " ... this fulfills what was said by the prophet..." Even Jesus quoted OT scripture by saying, ".. it was said," or "you have heard the ancients say...". Paul, in Romans would write "... it is written..." The difference is that she claimed that God inspired her to write these "original" thoughts when she was copying books that are not part of scripture. Then claiming her words were from God. I don't think Bible prophets could do that and still live to tell about it... ;-) vivian | ||

I also like: Jer 23:32 "Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams," declares the LORD, "and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them or command them, nor do they furnish this people the slightest benefit," declares the LORD. (NASB) and... this one makes me chuckle... Jer 23:25 "I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, 'I had a dream, I had a dream!' (NASB) vivian | ||

Walter Martin actually gave this passage on the John Ankerage show when he was debating the difference between SDAism and Christianity with the Editor of a prominant SDA magazine. He gave this verse after discussing the fact that EGW had many prophesies that did not come true. "And if you say in your heart, 'How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?'- when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him." Deut. 18:21-22 | ||

The Todd d. Bennett you are probably talking about wrote five books on various subjects. He is of the Hebrew roots movement. 'Is he a false prophet?' Does a bear crap in the woods?  River | ||

Even ONE unfulfilled unconditional prophecy (Deut 18) makes the false prophet. Ellen had several well known, unconditional and unfilfilled prophecies, clearly failing the Biblical test. BTW, you'll never hear the Biblical test of a false prophet on 3ABN! |
