If I was still an Adventist, I too would be grasping at anything I could, to "prove" to myself that the Sunday law was coming. I would be figuring that the threat of Islam would soon go away as the Sunday law overwhelmed the whole world including the Middle East!!! It's hard to imagine calls for Sunday observance sounding out in mournful tones from the mosque's minerettes! <grin>

(Actually I suspect Islam is one of the "beasts" of Revelation 13)

Anne, welcome! It's so nice to (and an encouragement) to have you here. I'm 3rd & 4th gen, but no one in my family was a conference leader, although my grandfather built at least two adventist churches (that I know of...)

Here (again) are some quotes from an article by William Johnsson, who was assistant to GC president for interfaith relations in Feb. 2010 when this was written for "Adventist World-NAD". He states that for 3 years he has "focused on making contacts with leaders of Islam and that several convictions have taken deep root in my psyche."

quote:

First, the Lord is preparing the Muslim world for His second coming.

Several months ago I received a message totally outside my previous frame of reference: a spiritual leader of many thousands of Muslims in several countries, a sheikh, stated that God had given him a vision of Adventists; now he was asking to meet with leaders from the General Conference.

"Sir," I asked, "is it true that you received a vision about Seventh-day Adventists?"
"Not one, but three," he replied. "All three had the same message: Seventh-day Adventists are the true People of the Book [a term from the Koran, designating followers of Allah who are not Muslim]. Adventists are already God's people, so do not try to convert them. Instead, work with them."

Our abstinence from pork and alcohol comes as a welcome surprise to Muslims, who are not used to associating Christians with these practices. This means that Adventists and Muslims can enjoy table fellowship without apprehension-an important fact in establishing basic relationships.

The Koran mentions the Sabbath, and in a positive light; it makes no mention of the first day of the week as a day of worship. Our observance of the Sabbath, enshrined in our very name, sets us apart as a people obedient to divine revelation.

Cosmic conflict. Muslims understand events on this earth against the backdrop of a cosmic struggle between good and evil, in which Iblis--Satan--and evil beings play a major role.

The fact that as a church Adventists refuse to be identified with any geopolitical lobby is a huge plus in the Muslim world.

When Muslims hear of Christians, they immediately think of pork-eating, alcohol-imbibing, loose-living men and women who side with Israel.

A major task with which we must grapple is to educate Muslims as to who we are and what we stand for. When that is done, attitudes change from disbelief to amazement, to appreciation, to warm acceptance.

In meeting Muslim leaders, I emphasize from the outset that I PREFER TO BE KNOWN AS AN ADVENTIST RATHER THAN A CHRISTIAN. FOR MUSLIMS THE NAME 'CHRISTIAN' CARRIES SUCH NEGATIVE ASSOCIATION--ASSOCIATIONS THAT DO NOT BELONG WITH SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS-THAT I WOULD RATHER AVOID THE TERM. (caps mine).

(Discussing myths that are believed about Islam) 'Allah' is a pagan deity. THIS MYTH is quickly disproved by a study of etymology. 'Allah' is
simply the Arabic name for God...

The final conviction is perhaps the most surprising of all: taking seriously the mission to Islam has the potential to renew and reform the Adventist Church.

quote:

The only thing "proof" I have ever heard from SDA's concerning Sunday Laws is a text something to the effect (not sure what text or exact wording) 'he will think to change times and laws...' I have heard that statement is referring to the Pope and that he changed the fourth commandment "laws" by changing the day "times" of worship from Saturday to Sunday.

Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Yeah that verse points directly at the Pope alright.

What they seem to leave out is the rest of the verse. They do this quite often focusing on one part of the verse. That's the most dangerous doctrine of all. Building off of part of a verse.

I used to be a real Glenn Beck junkie - and still like all the historical stuff and the restoring honor stuff. I watch it when I'm home in time - rarely lately.

The thing that really bothered me about his rally (I watched it online) was the black robe brigade. It seems like he is just telling people to get a faith - any faith will do and America will be OK. Everyone was singing Amazing Grace, and it was a beautiful moment. The problem is that it is God's grace. The trinitarian God who created the world, died to save us and now lives inside us. It's not Allah, but Jesus the song is about. The Jews don't accept Jesus and Mormons have a whole different Jesus than the God of the Bible. YET...everyone's singing Amazing Grace together. Jesus is divisive. At what point do we say, no I'm not with you all. Jesus is the only way, the only truth and the only way to eternal life. There is not a smorgesborg of equally valid truths all leading to the same place. I think it was a dangerous message to send with the black robe brigade. I have to admit though that some old Adventist eschatology - Sunday law was begining to creep into my mind as I was watching the show. It sure is a battle to not think about it.

The US and the rest of the world are increasingly embracing universalism. Those of us who hold that Jesus is the ONLY way to God (Jn. 14:6) are facing increased derision.

Yes Stevew, I've been bombarded with that, and someone posted about the Glen Beck thing "For my sda friends, what are the implications?" I have ignored it so far, as I don't know how to approach it. The superbowl ad is stupid.

Wow. So William Johnsson would rather be known as a Adventist than as a Christian. Wow.

Asurprise, I totally agree with you about Islam. That enlightenment has come to me as I process through all this SDA stuff through prayer and Bible only study and I by far am not a political or theological scholar. Nowisee, I think that statement is not only telling and reinforcing what I see happening in the world but it is no surprise to me that the Adventist church is beginning to align itself to Islam... because in my opinion SDAism is part of the beast...look how many people it's going to take down with it, look how hard it is to come out of. Even when people leave they have to be careful of being triggered back into Adventism. I can attest to you that these are issues that people trying to leave satanic cults have to deal with as well, there are specific trigger words, statements and beliefs that can trigger a members brain into going back into the dysfunction. It's getting sicker and sicker.

Welcome Annie! :-) Somehow I missed you!

I wonder what Adventists will do if it becomes illegal to critizise Islam. That's what organizations such as the OIC (Organization of Islamic Conference) are trying to do. They've been trying to get the U.N. to approve their "defamation of religions" resolution, where only Islam is named as the religion not to be defamed. Imagine the ramifications. Christianity would be outlawed, because pastors preach that Jesus is the ONLY way to be saved and that would be defaming Islam! (Actually Muslims are trying various ways to achieve their goal of Shariah law for the entire world. Look at the riots when they get populous enough. Country leaders bend over backwards not to offend them. In this country, CAIR "Council of American Islamic Relations" is slowly sneaking their people into positions of power and taking advantage of our country's obsession with political correctness.)

The devil's keeping Adventists decieved by Glenn Beck and others, it's seems. Islam is not even on the radar scope of Adventists because Ellen White didn't mention them as a last days danger though they, very definitely want to take over the world for Islam. Just curious, but when they want to kill a lot of people, isn't beheading their execution method? Because Revelation 20:4 mentions the people who were BEHEADED because they didn't take the mark of the beast. Just wondering.

Another thing about Islam. Anyone ever wonder why they want to plant a huge "flagship" at ground zero? It seems to me that even if they deny it, that would be a huge psychological victory for the ones who knocked down those buildings.

On my profile I have a website I got from Paul Carden. It is all about what Muslims do when they conquer a country. They turn churches and synagogues into mosques. I also have an article about a high school in Dearborn, Michigan who has a Muslim principal and the school is majority muslim. They are giving the non muslims a rough time.
A couple of us formers have an article about Wisconsin having the most Muslims and what they are doing there.
