I wanted to share something I ran across while I was examining what my wife & I were teaching kids in Sabbath School classes. I had written about this in in an email to someone but I thought I'd share it here. Has anyone noticed this before--I am sure I'm probably not the only one. Majority of the email body follows-- My goal was to find an Christian event that was so exoteric even non-believers could cite a good amount of the details BUT where I could show that Mrs. White ADDED or TOOK AWAY from Scriptures that recorded the event. I was amazed—but not surprised—to read that the RESURRECTION EVENT fit this case. Among the most egregious are those she comes up with regarding the Resurrection of Christ as recorded in the Scripture (Mt. 28:1-7, Mk. 16:1-8, Lk. 24:1-12 & Jn. 20:1-10). None of these describeds the events as EGW claims inspiration for, in The Spirit of Prophecy Volume Three, page 192 or The Desire of Ages, page 780! In these sections EGW says, “Then the mighty angel, with a voice that caused the earth to quake, was heard: Jesus, thou Son of God, thy Father calls thee!” and, “They see Jesus come forth from the grave, and hear Him proclaim over the rent sepulcher, ‘I am the resurrection, and the life.’” Now, I know of NOWHERE in my red-letter edition of the Bible is there a description of Christ coming out of the tomb, let alone saying anything. Her accounts here are fantastical and not found in any Scripture yet she is venerated by SDAs as a Prophet? It is one thing to be considered an Inspirational Writer but a different thing altogether to claim to have been “shewn”. What makes it even worse I was reading the Primary Study Guide it feeds that same non-Scriptural “junk food” detail to CHILDREN, “And he [an Angel] had called Jesus to life in the name of the Father.” (http://timeandsense.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/primary-study-guide1.pdf) None of the Bible writers record an Angel calling Jesus from the grave not do they have any record of Jesus speaking as he exited the tomb. (A red letter Bible will make that readily apparent). I wrote to the SDA Seminary in Andrews University. A graduate student responded to my request for information so when I pointed this out the response was, EGW did not contradict Scripture, she simply described it in more detail. | ||

Wiredog, that quote really disturbs me. No angel called Jesus from the tomb. He rose by His own intrinsic life. EGW didn't just describe the resurrection in "more detail", as the grad student said. She actually detracted from Jesus' own eternal LIFE that He possessed as God. The Bible states in different places that the Father raised Him and the Spirit raised Him—and that He rose by the spirit in Him. The entire Trinity was involved—and He is not extracted from the Trinity. He is fully God, and God's Life raised Jesus from the dead. No angel called Him, and no angel delivered the Father's message to Him. EGW has completely warped the identity and nature of Jesus even in this one quote. Colleen | ||

Saying Jesus rose from the grave because an angel told Him to, is like saying General Eisenhower invaded France because a private told him to. | ||
