My thoughts for today:

As a young Adventist boy I pondered many things without a firm foundation on God’s word. This led to a number of the nightmares I experienced in those early days of my life.

One time, grandmother told me that the earth was covered with a giant bowl that has one hole in it. The moon was this hole and if I looked closely I would see angels passing back and forth where the moon was. From this I decided that when I grew up I would hike over to the edge of the bowl and climb up into heaven. It didn’t take me long to figure out that this was a silly idea and it got me to pondering many things that I was being taught.

If there was no bowl over the earth, what if the other things grandmother was teaching me also not true. What if God didn’t really exist? What if my reality was only a product of my mind? If I woke up one morning to discover I didn’t really exist would the universe suddenly not be there? What if all I thought existed really didn’t exist? We would really be in a timeless eternal nothingness.

These thoughts terrified me and led to other even more terrifying nightmares. The only obvious indication of my fears was I became a chronic bed wetter. Growing up was hard for me.

As parents, please, teach your children truth from the word of God. When they are very young they many not have big words in their vocabulary but this doesn’t mean they don’t have deep thoughts. If you are still an Adventist, please, consider what is real truth. If you have found the real Savior and have turned to the Bible for your sole source of reality, be aware that many other traps exist. Ellen White didn’t have a patent on ‘lies’.

We can only know reality by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit when we accept the atoning gospel of Jesus Christ and turn to the scriptures are our only source of truth.

It would be the same thing for a child who has been taught that both Jesus and Santa Claus exist. Once he finds out that Santa Claus doesn't exist, he may well become an atheist.

As an SDA, I was taught that salvation was both my doing and Jesus' doing. That too was a lie because it's ALL Jesus' doing. That lie leads to misery and eternal death. As an SDA child, I was naturally always insecure about salvation.

Phil, absolutely excellent advice. There is only ONE source of absolute truth, and God has revealed Jesus in His word.
