Standing at the edge of myself

Lost in the dust of my mental shelf

Longing to know what’s real and true

I want to drink in the depths of you

I see the dark clouds slowly drifting by

They thin, and clear, to a bright blue sky

Beyond all the glory of the blue

I see the hope, I know, you can bring me to

My heart screams inside and it tries to hide

I stand firm and beg you- “take my pride!”

Rescue me from prison; here I’ll stand

Till you bring me in to the “promised land”!

Desperately my soul cries in agony

I stand as my own worst enemy

Take me from this place I'm in

Fill me up and have your way within.

The blue turns shades I’ve never seen

As the sky grows dark inside of me

My will fights against this desperate plea

But I know that you have plans for me!

Light fills every place; I feel the darkness run!

I fall on my face and I come undone

Heaving breaths of new life, I am finally free

My heart beats for you- you have rescued me!

You pull me up to my feet and now I see

Rainbows fill the sky; you’re not done with me

Promises abound! And I bend my knee,

I am yours from now through eternity!

Take my will, take my life, I belong to you

Will me daily to live as you ask me to!

The death of my flesh is laid at your feet

I am yours, every breath, every last heartbeat!

Be my all, be my love, be my everything

Let my life be poured out as an offering

Take my pride, take my shame, take anything,

For you alone my praise Ill bring!

You came and rescued this weary soul

When the darkness reigned and had control

Though a part of me resisted you,

You came to do what you intended to!

You are the Author of Life!

You are the bearer of strife!

You are the Great I AM!

You are the Son of Man!

You are the King of kings!

You are Lord of all things!

You are the Victory,

Over death in me!

Hear my praises sing

YOU ARE MY EVERTHING!

May the Glory to God forever be,

For the New Life birthed inside of me!

Oops, that second line should be
"sorting out wounds on memory's shelf"

I can't edit it. Oh well.. :-(

I recently had to sit and think about what I thought being born again was as an SDA. In a nutshell I saw it as a conscious decision to accept the forgiveness of Jesus and have the maturity to choose to turn my life around and live a new life of obedience to His commandments (10c) out of love and loyalty.

How did you understand it?

Dear "Free",
Thanks for that lovely, heartfelt prayer in verse form!

I was baptized at age 11, and it was a very meaningful experience for me. I truly gave my heart to Jesus. And even after exiting the SDA church and "wandering in the wilderness" for awhile, I did not feel the need for rebaptism, as I recognized that we are all still sinners in need of forgiveness, and God accepts our request for it. And then a very strange experience confirmed that for me. About 4 years ago, I happened to stop at a yard sale at a small community (not SDA) church. The pickin's were slim, but right there in front of me was a very old SDA Sabbath School Lesson Quarterly. Surprised to see such a thing in such a place, I picked it up. WOW!!! The quarterly had a picture of the crucifixion on the front, and I saw that it was the one for the last quarter of 1954--and I had been baptized Dec. 18, 1954! Never before or since have I seen a copy of such an old SDA Quarterly for sale. It was like a sign from God to me, affirming that my baptism was still valid. I paid my 25 cents, took it home, and framed it. It still speaks to me.

I love your name--Free2dance!
