The first thing I want to point out is what the Bible says about the Covenant that God made with Israel...

Deuteronomy 5:2-3 says; The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. Not with our fathers did the LORD make this covenant, but with us, who are all of us here alive today.

Deuteronomy 4:13 says; And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments, and he wrote them on two tablets of stone.

And then here are verses that show the start and end times of that covenant....
Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, "And to offsprings," referring to many, but referring to one, "And to your offspring," who is Christ. This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise. Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary. Galatians 3:16-19

What happened to the Old Covenant?
Hebrews 8:13 says; In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

These verses compare the two covenants...
2 Corinthians 3:7-8 says; Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory?

Here's another that goes along with those...

Romans 10:3-4 says; For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Feel free to add more verses!

"There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION to those who are in Jesus Christ."

Gen. 3:6b: "She also gave some to her husband, WHO WAS WITH HER, and he ate it."

Daniel 10:2&3: At that time I, Daniel, mourned for 3 weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the 3 weeks were over."

Mark 7:18, 19: "Are you so dull?" He asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean".)

So many verses, so little time!!

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life." John 5:24

This one refutes the IJ and the mortal soul in one verse. One of my favorites!

What is the significance of that passage in Daniel vis-a-vis SDAism?

SDAs are real good at believing:

quote:

John 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

but they ignore how this is plainly defined a few verses later:

quote:

John 15:12 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command you.

A little bit of math? Maybe 4th grade so everybody can handle it?

In Daniel and elsewhere dealing with prophecy, SDA insists that one day equals one year. Therefore, one week equals seven years, and three weeks equals 21 years. How much did Daniel weigh at the end of that verse?

Daniel 10:2&3: At that time I, Daniel, mourned for 3 weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the 3 weeks were over."

With the Investigative Judgement still in the Adventist's minds and on their lips--

John 19:30 (New American Standard Bible)

30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

Deuteronomy 3:15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out with a mighty arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

Bskillet, we were taught that Daniel was a lifelong vegetarian & teetotaler, maintaining this "health message" throughout his life. This was a Very Big Deal in Adventism, but he couldn't have given up meat and wine for 3 weeks if he wasn't eating them in the first place! I can't give up chocolate cake, if I don't eat it.

Hec--very funny! Didn't think of that!

Last time I visited Kindergarten, as a babysitter for an SDA child, they had a very elaborate skit and song for the children teaching Daniel's eating habits. They assume that the account of young Daniel and his friends giving up the food of the king's table, meant that he ate "Adventist" the rest of his life. I can't tell you how many times I heard this preached in church, studied in SS lessons, etc.

If one day equals a year, one week equals seven years, and one month equals 30 years, why doesn't one year equal 365 years (or the thousand years of Revelation equal 365,000 years)?

Heb 9:24-26
For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

SDAs conveniently ignore that the high priest entering every year is an unmistakable reference to the Day of Atonement, and Christ is portrayed as having fulfilled this in the first century

John 5:18. "Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his father, making himself equal with God."

John was the disciple closest to Jesus and he plainly states two things here: 1) Jesus had broken the sabbath and 2) Jesus made himself equal with God.

I read this verse to my SDA husband once and he said to me, "No one is ever going to tell me that Jesus broke the sabbath!"

In my 16 years in Adventism, I learned that Adventists can look right at the black and white words on the page and insist they do not say what they plainly say.

I used to think Adventists believed only one of these statements that John made - that Jesus was equal with God. But now I realize they don't believe even that.

Hebrews 7:11-12 "Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law. "

The idea hat Daniel was a lifelong vegetarian is absurd on its face, since the Torah required obedient Jews to eat lamb.
