Wow...great discussion! So many points to respond to...

#1. River, you took microdermabrasion to a new level!

#2. Thank you for posting that quote, Colleen. We really need to face what Ellen wrote...it helps remind us WHY we have to keep defending the Biblical gospel, esp. when we get weary. Remember, this quote is contained in the book (GC) that the church high officials knelt around in prayer in preparation for sending it out to the community. (Remember the photo? We really need to re-post that so we do not lose sight of why we even spend time and energy on this forum, etc.)

#3. Circular mill-stone reasoning! Love it! That exactly describes it.

#4. Great description, Phil. The sinking sub.

#5. I've been thinking about Pathfinders recently, too. Another very interesting topic. (I will confess--the endless marching bored me silly.) It was very military---

#6. My theory of why people marched to Ellen's tune (of course, many had integrity and left--we don't even know how many): They were probably aware they'd end up in the "Testimonies', with their sins described in detail, along with their names!! (The more research I do, the meaner I find her to be when her authority was questioned. I really don't go along with the befuddled little old lady scenario. I think she was smart like a fox.)

#7. She could "write" comments on many subjects, because, let's face it...she had a BIG library!

Jrt, your point above is exactly right on. Ellen did teach that a time was coming when Christ's mediation would cease, God's people would have finally reproduced His character within themselves with His "help", they would stand through the Time of Trouble without a mediator (because they were now sinless), and from then on, there would be no more sacrifice for sin.

In other words, Jesus' sacrifice for sin was only applicable until the investigative judgment was over. Once people were "sealed", they would be whatever they had become by then.

So, when EGW said sin will not arise a second time, that statement is based on the belief that the "saved" will finally be sinless having seen the true nature of Satan's "kingdom" and therefore choosing God's. Satan would be destroyed, and without Satan, there will not be any more sin. Voila--no more need for Jesus' sacrifice. We will have achieved perfection from a true knowledge of good and evil and making appropriate choices.

This is blasphemy.

Hebrews says,

quote:

The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.
Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
(Hebrews 7:23-25 ESV)

We can be confident that we will not have to fight sin again because of Jesus' blood, the blood of the eternal covenant (Heb. 13:20). Jesus shed His blood for eternity. Furthermore, Satan is not responsible for humanity's sin. Adam is. We are sinners; Satan is not the reason we are sinners. His destruction does not remove the source of sin.

Jesus rose in His glorified body with his scars in His hands and side. These will eternally remind us that He died to save us, reconcile us, make us children of God, and to shed an eternal sacrifice for sin. We can be confident about eternity because Jesus' blood pays eternally for sin, and when we are in Him, we are new creatures. We are spiritually alive, born of God (John 1:13).

Getting rid of Satan has nothing to do with sparing us from sin. Getting rid of Jesus' sacrifice for sin, however, is utter blasphemy. It is anti-gospel; it is an ugly lie.

EGW says it takes a week to get to Heaven. Where in the Bible does it say that?
So how long will we live without a mediator? A week? I don't get that reasoning at all.

I was taught that the week to get to Heaven came from Revelation 8:1 "When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour." Supposedly that half an hour equaled a week and that was where EGW got the week to get to heaven. Makes absolutely no sense now.

Butterfly_poette,

You've good that right. When we read for ourselves under the leading of the Holy Spirit, the simple meaning of the text gains a simply understanding even us simple folks can understand.

Oh hey quick one. FYI The EGW Quote waaaayyy up a the top of the string is on GC Page 518 as opposed to 581 at least that's what's on the EGW Estate website when I searched for it.

I used to to ask a question on an SDA pastors blog. I know its geeky but just in case someone needs to cite it.

Now I know what microdermabrasion means. :-)

Wonder which is better? Microdermabrasion or a nice cold-pak over the face with a cucumber covering each eye?
With a little sanding and a slaking off of the old skin, new growth can take place.

Now that was me up until a couple years ago. I had me a nice comfortable cold-pac over me face with a nice wet cucumber stuck over each eye. I thought Adventism was maybe benign, you know, just a bunch of funny believing Christian’s. That is until early one morning the Lord began to deal with me on this.

I was reading out of the book of Amos and thinking about some of my Adventist friends when these scripture began to jump off the page at me.

Amos 7:5 Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
Amos 7:6 The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.
Amos 7:7 Thus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
Amos 7:8 And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
Amos 7:9 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

I said, “But all those people Lord?”
And the Holy Spirit said, “River, what do you see in my word?”

By this time tears were stream out of my eyes and I had to say, “Yes Lord, I see a plumbline, your word is true.” Gods word is a plumbline to divide truth from error.

Which is better, a little sanding or this? John 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
John 12:50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

I don’t do this out of hatefulness, but because the Lord don’t let me get away with a nice cold-pak and a cucumber covering each eye that can’t be seen through.

Adventism is a cancer, and if every bit of it is not removed, it will grow from the minute particle that is left.

My Bible tells me in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

So my dearly beloved formers, which is better?

I want to amend that with this. Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Thats where the gentleness kicks in.

Love it River! The clear and plain meaning of the word needs no further explanation. Even a wretched sinner like me could be convicted and ransomed with its "face value".

When we do mine into Scripture, It actually grows deeper into us!

River, you're right. Scripture acts on us like dermabrasion. It pierces between bone and marrow, joint and tendon, soul and spirit. It reveals truth to us, and we can't ignore that revelation. We can resist it, but encountering it changes us forever.

Yes Colleen, it changes us forever because the word of God is real, it has teeth, it has substance, it is food for the soul and it can quicken our mortal bodies when we do not resist it. But let it sink down deep into our being, but if we resist it it will cut us asunder.

If we resist the word it by refusing to rightly divide the word then we are only fooling ourselves.

An example might be as one who refuses to allow the truth of the laws of this land against crime. A person might not believe that there is justice, he might then take a life or commit some heinous crime.

But then when the bars of some prison slams shut with a horrible clank and the lock is turned on him for life to pace back and fourth in an eight by ten cell, then the reality of the laws of this land comes home to him much too late. He would like to redo it, but he has appeared before the courts and the judge has pronounced his sentence.

As Adventism refuses to allow the word of God to do it’s work, but instead refuses to rightly divide the word and twists it to their own suitability, then I can predict that persons future if they do not repent.

One time I consulted with a young man who seemed bent on breaking the laws of this land, he seemed bent on going his own way, refusing to listen to warnings, refusing to listen to my preaching to him out of the word of God.

Right in my garage about 20 years ago, standing there trying to make him realize the seriousness of his unlawful acts I said, “Young man, if you keep going the way you are there will come a day when you will be in prison and your folks will begin to die off and you won’t as much as be able to attend the funerals of the ones you love.”

I was telling him his future. In time as the years past the bars slammed shut on that young man for life. Every word I said to him has come true to the letter.

I can tell you the future of Adventists who rail against you for your stand for Jesus, I can tell you the future of those Adventist who send off railing letters against Colleen and Richard for sending them Proclamation! Telling them they hope they burn in hell.
If they do not repent and turn, then I can tell you their future just like I told that young man his future so many years ago. We plead with tears and preach the word of God until we are blue in the face, criss crossing the country to bring the message, and also the warning, the message of hope to other formers, encouragement, and the message of hope to Adventist, but if they will not listen, then I can tell them their future.

Heresy such as this is not a clash of minds in some theological nowhere land where there can be no real consequences, it is real and reality will prevail over it.

Jesus told the Israelites their future in Matt. 6:12, 22:13, 25:51, 25:30 and Luke 13:28.
This is the future for those who make the word of God of non-effect, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when the reality of their loss comes upon them.

The word that was preached in the Tour of Encouragement will not come back void. I sat right there in that little church house in Roseburg Oregon and beheld the deadness, the glazed over eyes, the hopeless faces of Adventist, I felt the spirit of resistance at work in some of those people, the stubbornness, the set faces of those who would not turn, and my friend I saw their future.

As Jesus preached he said, Luke 20:17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
Luke 20:18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
We either fall on that stone to be broken and of a contrite heart and spirit, or it will fall on us and the weight of it will grind us to powder. I have fallen, broken, upon that stone, that rock Christ Jesus, how about you? Will you let him gently break you today? Will you let his grace overshadow you?

I also heard that the "week to get to heaven" is so that those who convert at the last moment and have not kept a Sabbath have the opportunity to kept a Sabbath in route to heaven since you can't enter heaven without keeping the Sabbath. That was preached a lot in old times.
