How to put a square peg into a round hole

The understanding of our minds is like a hole. A round hole is just fine as long as all you have are round pegs to put in them. Round pegs are what our worldly thinking is and they fit just fine when you put them in our natural minds which only have round holes of understanding.

God’s word is like a square peg. It will not properly fit into a round hole without some changes made to the hole. It is the hole and not the peg that must be changed. In the mechanical trades the tool for doing this is called a broach. The Holy Spirit is our broach.

However, we come from a background where God’s pegs were driven into our round holes of understanding by unskilled mechanics who act as if they never heard of the need for a broach and wouldn’t recognize the broach even if it were red hot and burning their Lilly White fingers. In reality, Jesus not only promises us the broach but he is the master mechanic who uses the broach to turn our round holes into square holes that can receive square pegs of God’s truth.

We all are in need to have Jesus shape our round holes that are not in compliance to His square peg. I like your example of using a broach to shape the hole so Jesus square peg can fit in.

Just like Jesus is the potter and we are the clay. We have to be shaped and the air holes and pebbles need to be removed. Then the vessel is put in the fire. The problem is we are not perfect. So Jesus has given us Grace by putting us in His vessel so we are seen as perfect.
