I just got back from camping and I met a couple SDAs at the campground and RV park. They were a young lady and her grandmother. I met the granddaughter first and when I found out that she was SDA, I mentioned that Ellen White said that Jesus didn't go into the Most Holy Place in Heaven until 1844. She agreed with that and then I mentioned that the Bible in Hebrews 6:19,20 says that Jesus went ALREADY into the Most Holy Place. I said that if she looked up the words "within the veil," in the King James version, she would find that in every place in the Bible where it says that, it's talking about the Most Holy Place. She said that she reads only the King James Version. (I didn't know that there were any Adventists who read ONLY the King James Version anymore. One of my sisters who is a Mormon says that the language in that version is a holier language - so perhaps that is the reason. Perhaps they think it's holier.)
She tried to tell me that that's a prophecy, that the Jewish people didn't do what they should so Jesus couldn't enter the Most Holy Place in Heaven then, so He had to wait until 1844. I told her that the verse is in past tense - that it says that Jesus ALREADY WENT there, but she just said that I should talk to her grandfather (who was also camping). I told her that the Holy Spirit is the One Who teaches EVERYONE who turns to God and that she didn't have to learn from another person.

Then I asked her if where God was, was where the Most Holy Place in Heaven is. She said that God is the Temple in Heaven. I said that Jesus sat down at the right hand of God (Hebrews 10:12 and Hebrews 1:3), so that too, shows that Jesus entered - past tense - into the Most Holy Place. She really didn't have an answer to that.

Then I started talking about salvation. I said that the Mormons, Roman Catholics and Jehovah's Witnesses added requirements to get salvation, but that Christianity says done! About that time her grandmother came up and when I said that a person is SAVED when they accept Jesus and that their sins; past, present and future, are forgiven (Ephesians 1:13,14; Ephesians 2:8,9; 2nd Timothy 1:9; Titus 3:5 & 1st John 2:12), she enthusiastically agreed! I thought that she had somehow "got" what salvation was, despite the fact that the SDA church and Ellen White teaches that a person shouldn't say or feel they are saved - therefore that people cannot really accept Jesus' FINISHED work; until she added, "as long as they keep the commandments." When she said that, I knew that she had been simply putting on the public face that Adventists show to non-Adventists, that that she really hadn't "gotten" it after all.

I hope a seed was planted, because until a person comes to the point of really accepting the Atonement [Jesus] for themselves, they haven't been saved. They can't stand in both camps - one foot on Jesus work and the other foot on their' remaining "obedient." As long as a person stands thus, they haven't accepted Jesus.

~You are so right, Asurprise~with your
complete post here, especially the last paragraph!
Until a person comes to the point they can
totally reject "egw" and EVERYTHING she stood
for it is next to impossible (humanly speaking)
to reach them~ This truly is the work of the
Holy Spirit~ We do "plant"the seed & leave the
harvest to the Lord~!

I'm certain of it, Asurprise. The cognitive dissonance grows louder...

Speaking of the whole "veil" argument. I just don't understand why the veil in heaven wouldn't have been torn when the one on earth was torn.

The one on earth is simply a type of the one in heaven so why would the one on earth be torn when the one in heaven was left in place?

From my own limited understanding of Scripture, doesn't that signify that the Melchizedek priesthood was then in place? Did it not mean that there was no longer a waiting period or a step-by-step process for the sinner to come before God?

As a side note, if Jesus did not enter into the Most Holy Place until 1844, how were sins atoned for during that period?

Just some random thoughts your post sparked.

Thanks,
DT

Hebrews 9:11

11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here,[a] he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation.

Yes, DT--Hebrews 10:20 identifies the veil as the body of Jesus. Everything was completed at the cross, and death was overturned and eternal life became accessible NOW at the resurrection.
