Dear Lori

It has been my experience when dealing with the unsaved not to tell them what is wrong with ....
It seems to be human nature that if you tell a child not to stuff peas up their nose...that is exactly what they will want to do. Mankind is at his core rebellious. The saved you can warn against the evil snares of the enemy.

This is just another example of its all about me and what i want....seeking the gift instead of the Giver.

What i would say to my friend is something like ...

the most attractive thing/Person in all of the universe is my wonderful Saviour Jesus. He is everything to me. I have all i ever need or imagined fulfilled in Him. You do not have to attract Him. He already loves you with an infinate and unconditional love. There is no greater power on earth than the Love of God. He truly satisfies the desires of my heart. He is what you are looking for and you dont know or realize it. Things so do not satisfy. He alone is worth it allllll. Why do seek after things that are temporary and do not satisfy when the love of God is already yours and His gift of relationship and salvation is free for the asking????

Father,

You know the heart of Lori's friend. You know she is seeking to satisfy the vacuum that only You can fill. I pray that you would open her eyes to see the joy and contentment and trust that Lori has in You. Father cause her to see the dismal futility that the phony promises of the enemy are and that she is selling her soul to him for nothing. he promises so much, delivers nothing and the price he charges is a dear, dear price to pay. I thank You Lord that just at this moment of need in her friend's life, Lori is there to speak gently the truth in love to her friend's needy heart. I pray that you would prepare her heart to receive the truth and You would give Lori the words to speak from her heart. I pray Lord that every word from You would penetrate her heart and that the enemy would not be alowed to steal any of it away. Bring it to her rememberance often, water it and give the increase in a new life in Jesus.
Thank you Father for satisfying our hearts. We love You and praise You for truly being the Giver of all good and perfect gifts.

I hope this person gets out of it. New Age is so common in Christianity these days, yet of course it's not real Christian thought. It's a poison that's permeating it.

One of my teachers in church school was a Robert Schuller fan. She actually had the kids copy quotes from him in notebooks and memorize them. She even had classical music playing very low, so low we could barely hear it. She thought it would help our brains. She quit that after a few weeks after students complained about that music that was like static.

Handmaiden, thank you for typing out your prayers in your posts. It really helps me to see your faith-filled, uplifting words. I wanted to pray for Lori and her friend, but my faith muscles are very weak right now, due to some severe trials the Lord has allowed into my life. I feel like a leach, but at this point I'm holding on for dear life to your demonstrations of faith. Lori, my prayers for you and your friend are piggybacking on Handmaiden's.

Thanks, HW,
I remember enough of your from our correspondence here and off forum, that I can remind you of this:
He who has started a good work in you will bring it through to fruition. (Complete fulfillment)
--Thats what I heard for you today, after reading your post. Trust God knows the outcome of your trials, and has already provided a way of escape and even joy in the process.
--My favorite quote: "Dont look for victory, look for Jesus, HE is the victory".

Handmaiden, I also appreciate your written prayers

Lori, I am drinking in your words of encouragement like water on parched ground. Thank you so much. I'll remember your favorite quote: Jesus is the victory.

I look forward to seeing a good report about your friend.

Viv,
Its all about "attracting" good to yourself, by thinking positive thoughts and putting out "good energy". Lost of Eastern Mysticism type stuff. I really dont know much, but see comments about "co-creating" with God your reality, etc. I hope someone here knows more. I would really appreciate learning more from a credible source.

Lori,

... it seems that if someone doesn't believe that God is sovereign, then they believe they have power over their own life. They have control issues and misunderstanding of who God is. As an adventist I believed that I controlled my life. Good things happened to me because I was good. Since leaving adventism, I see God in control of every detail of my life, whether good or bad.

If you get any other information... it would be interesting to read that.

... which brings up another question.

If I believed in this "law of attraction" and directed all my good thoughts and good deeds... what if bad things still happened to me?

Dear Honest Witness,

Thank you for sharing what you are going through. i can genuinely empathize with your being in fiery trials. i too have been going through many severe testings. God does allow them. i know that if it had not been for these trials i would not have learned to be totally dependent on HIM, nor would i have known the fullness of His faithfulness. It is these very trials, which have kept me pressed into His heart and caused me to know the fellowship of His sufferings. i am grateful for these difficult seasons for the deep relationship with God, that has grown out of the hard and painful bare root pruning. i have truly lost everything that was dear to me, but i can count it all joy because of what i have gained in Jesus. He is worth it all.

My favorite quote in hard times is from Corrie ten Boom:

I would rather walk with God in the darkest night, than walk alone in the light.

I appreciate your encouraging words more than you know. We truly do have the power of blessing or cursing in our mouths. i know how much it means to me to hear the spoken prayers of others on my behalf. i want to minister that same blessing and comfort to others, who are hurting. i know that is why God asks us to pray for one another and bear one another's burdens. Prayer is a wonderful gift that God gives to us for each other. His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Father,

The enemy has come in like a flood in HW's life, she is hard pressed on every side ... speak peace to the storm that has shaken her faith, draw her eyes from the waves that threaten to drown her, to look upon Jesus, the author and finisher of her faith. i pray that she would attend to Your words O God, that she would incline her ear to Your sayings. Do not let them depart from her eyes and keep them in the midst of her heart, for they are life to her spirit and death to her enemies round about, who seek to destroy her testimony of You. i know that You are with her in the fiery furnace. i pray that You would make Your presence known to her. i pray that she would know that she can trust Your love for her and Your plans and purpose for her, even in the darkest of nights and the worst of circumstances. Comfort her with hope, when everything seems hopeless, fill the empty void this loss has created in her life with more of You. Your word says when we are weak You are strong...cause her to believe and trust in Your faithful promises and become totally dependent on You, to deliver her from the bad news, the unbearable circumstances, the excruciating ripping of all that she holds dear. You are her place of stillness in the storm, a place of rest and refuge from the turmoil of her thoughts and worries and grief. Only You can sustain her, when her life is shattered and her world falls apart. When all others leave her lost, alone and forsaken, You are there to comfort her and sustain her and hold her in Your everlasting arms. Father heal her aching heart, redeem her sorrows, let her tears become healing waters for those, who follow in her path. Let her find solace and victory in the fellowship of Your suffering and bring her forth, as pure gold refined in the fire. Set her feet on solid ground keep her from stumbling and slipping into the pit of self pity. When she is overwhelmed and confused and does not know which way to turn, give her ears to clearly hear Your voice and give her certain, clear direction. Remind her that weeping endures for the night but joy comes in the morning and You are able to do exceedingly above all that she is able to ask or imagine. Teach her heart to worship You and her hands to war against the enemy. Put a song of praise in her heart and a shout of victory on her lips and bring down the walled city of her enemy. Many are the afflictions of the righteous but You have promised to deliver her out of all of them. To You be all the honor and glory and praise for the victories in her life. We are forever grateful Lord for all You have done and all You are doing in our lives. Blessed be the name of the Lord for it is truly well with our souls.

Remember that the greatest VICTORY EVER WON on the cross on Calvary looked to all like the greatest defeat.

Honest Witness

Still lifting you in prayer. Know that you are not alone. The Lord laid this verse on my heart for you today.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Isaiah 43:2

LOA (Law of Attraction) is dangerous stuff when you look at what they teach. I will use info from Wikipedia:

A concept written about in the early 1900s by William Walker Atkinson (1862–1932), in his book Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World (1906).
The present day promoters of this concept are Esther Hicks (born Esther Weaver), an American inspirational speaker and best-selling author. She has co-authored nine books with her husband Jerry Hicks, presented workshops on the Law of Attraction and appeared in the first release of the film The Secret. The Hicks' books, including the best-selling series The Law of Attraction, are — according to Esther Hicks — "translated from a group of non-physical entities called Abraham." (Hicks describes what she is doing as tapping into "infinite intelligence").

Abraham is a group of entities being channeled through Esther Hicks. Abraham has described themselves as “a group consciousness from the non-physical dimension.” They have also said, “We are that which you are. You are the leading edge of that which we are. We are that which is at the heart of all religions.” Abraham has told us through Esther that whenever we feel moments of great love, exhilaration, pure joy, stoned-out bliss, even the energy of sexual orgasm when we feel that Energy Flow rushing through our bodies, that is the energy of Source, and that is who Abraham “is”.

The basic tenets of Esther Hicks teachings (referred to as Abraham–Hicks teachings) include that people create their own reality through their thoughts, that emotions are constantly guiding people toward where they want to go, and that life is supposed to be fun. The essence of Abraham–Hicks' teachings since 1986 has been presented as follows:

Individuals are physical extensions of the non-physical.
People are in their bodies because they chose to be.
The basis of life is freedom; the purpose of life is joy.
People are creators; they create with their thoughts.
Whatever people can imagine is theirs to be, or do, or have.
Individuals choose their creations as they choose their thoughts.
Emotions indicate what people are creating.
The Universe adores people; it knows their broadest intentions.
Individuals should relax into their natural well-being, and know that all is
well.
Life is not meant to be a struggle, but a process of allowing.
People are creators of "thoughtways" on their unique "paths of joy".
Actions and money are by-products of focusing on joy.
Individuals may depart their body without illness or pain.
People cannot die; their lives are everlasting.

This stuff makes EGW look harmless. The Hicks are multi-millionaires, although supposedly Mr. Hicks was already a millionaire before he met his wife. Mr. Hicks came from poverty (sound familiar?). I have no doubt Satan helps those whom he can use to further his cause. I find it hypocritical that EGW rebuked people trying to make money when she herself made a lot of money from her books (her earnings would be comparable to someone making 250K a year today).

This is similar to the Prosperity Gospel/Word-Faith teachings, which also comes from Eastern philosophy. For instance, this book sounds very similar to LOA kind of stuff.
